starfrenzy Posted October 24, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2018 We’ll get off the cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale at 7am but our flight home isn’t until 7:40pm. So far we have not chosen to rent a car. What can we do with our luggage while we enjoy the city? Here’s the ideas I had, are any of these feasible? - luggage lockers (are there any)? - rent a car for the day and store luggage in the trunk - check the luggage in at the airport in the morning and return in the evening for the flight Any other options? Rare Hlitner Posted October 24, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2018 In places like Ft Lauderdale we would generally opt to rent a car. One day rentals can be very inexpensive and it gives you the maximum flexibility. Otherwise you do have some other options. All the terminals at FLL have public luggage storage. Another option is to use the EZ Check option offered on many cruise ships in conjunction with the airlines. Your luggage is pickup up from outside your cabin and you will not see it again until you get to your home airport. This means you are still stuck with your carry-on.....but that would be all. Another option is to get a "day room" at a local hotel. This gets you a place to store your luggage, use of the facilities, etc. And the final option might be an excursion offered by your ship that will include a local tour and later delivery or both you and your luggage to the airport. Not all cruise lines have this option so you would have to check. Hank

By the time we got to the airport all our laundry was done and this was for two adults and two children in the days when everyone dressed formally.

Option 3 might not work. Sometimes at FLL, you can't even check in until a few hours before your flight. DON
paul929207 Posted October 24, 2018 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2018 Most cruise lines offer excursions to departing passengers. They end at the airport. However, this will only get you to mid afternoon or so
Rare broberts Posted October 24, 2018 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2018 FLL has some thoughts on the matter http://www.broward.org/Airport/About/Documents/Cruisebrochure2011.pdf.
cb at sea Posted October 24, 2018 #7 Share Posted October 24, 2018 If you have 12 hours to kill, I'd book a hotel room...you'll have restaurant, pool, tv, BATHROOM/SHOWER, etc....and a place to keep your stuff. I would check the prices on ALL your options, and see how much an earlier flight would cost....Pick the cheapest.
