Jade chairs: form over function

We sailed Jade Oct 15 for 10 nights to ABC islands.  Great cruise.  Great ship.

Supposedly there has been a refurb to the ship, but either they missed some important items or deliberately  created some ridiculous furniture.

In many of the lounges, chairs appear to be chosen for appearance, not for comfort.  Magnums lounge, Spinnaker, the Casino etc. Following are a few pix.  In Magnums we like to play cards while listening to music prior to dinner,.  But  the easy chairs are not easy.  Arms are so high in the chair as to be unusable.   To rest your arms, you have to lift them all the way up to shoulder height.  So, you have to sit confined inside the contraption and struggle to deal cards or pick up a drink.  Sheesh.    In the casino there are bar top video poker machines.  But the stools are so short as to make them unplayable for someone who is not very tall.  Instead, some players wind up just standing.  We were watching NFL games in another part of magnums, seated on the blue padded bar stools.  The straight up angle of the back and the sharp top edge was very uncomfortable after a few minutes.  In Spinnaker and the Atrium, some lounge chairs had extra pillows.  Thank goodness if you could get one.  Otherwise, sitting back would nearly lift you feet off the floor, and I am 6ft tall.  Just plain silly.

We found furnishings in the restaurants and many other areas to be quite ok.  And we eventually learned where to find comfortable chairs.  There were some!

On the last few ships we've been on the chairs have frequently been horrible.  Replacement chairs are now way over sized, including in some of the restaurants.   I'm 5'6", 150 and can't sit fully back in many of them without my legs dangling in space.   They have also been strengthened to accommodate weights up to 450 which makes the structure very heavy to try and move.  Yea, I agree.   We do try search out a bar where we can possibly sit comfortably.

I'm going to be on the Jade in January.  I'm curious... where did you find the comfortable chairs?

You have to search for comfortable chairs.  Most of the lounges have several types.  At Magnums, for example, all the chairs in the center, near the performers area are terrible.  But along the wall you will find satisfactory seating.

I wish I had taken a picture. There are chairs outside one of the lounges on the Breakaway that are about four feet high in the back but the seat is only about a foot off the floor. Small children and those with really good knees only I guess.

This is a problem on many of the ships.

When I was on the Star last year, I found the dining room chairs uncomfortable. The problem no matter where I sat was that the cushioning had worn out. There was no support for the rear end. It just sunk in like a crater. Solution: new chairs needed.

Was on the BA last month. The sofas in the Atrium are too deep, even for a tall person. You need cushions to support your back. Short people had to sit forward to keep their feet on the floor. On the other hand, the chairs had good back support but everybody knew that so they were always occupied.

Breakaway has the worst chairs!  The  main theatre seats have a metal bar that runs through the seat without enough padding to make sitting there for more than 20 minutes very uncomfortable.  The out side bar stools at H2O and Maltings are so shallow and hard wood that your legs with all your weight hang over and hurts to sit.  I really think whoever designed the chairs was thinking "something that would make people stay for a very short time"!  Dining room chairs are the wrong height making impossible to cross your legs with your legs under the table.  I had to sit sideways in the chair just to cross my legs,
