Pacific Princess Questions

Does anyone have any recent pictures of the buffet area and/or inside cabins for the Pacific Princess?  I just saw the new 12-day Alaska itinerary for May 15, 2020 and it looks interesting.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

cruisedeckplans.com has several pictures of cabins and public spaces on the Pacific.  She is our favorite Princess ship.

Thank you.  Have you ever been to Alaska?  If so, do you think the Pacific Princess would be a good option for Alaska?

I just booked this one also. The Pacific is my favorite ship and you will love her. Buffet is not huge but is located across the stern of the ship. Forward side has all main dishes while the aft side has more salads and desserts. There is seating both inside and outside, I love the aft open deck. Pizza is thru a small window on the port side.

You can get anywhere in the ship in 5 minutes and should never encounter any lines or wait for the elevators

I've sailed on the Pacific several times, including the official 50th Anniversary cruise with the Love Boat cast. Love the small ships. Check out costs of the rooms on deck 3, probably not much more cost than your inside

Pacific is perfect for Alaska, lots of open deck space and a real promenade. Being close to the water gives a much better perspective on a lot of things. No lines anywhere onboard or getting on/off is a huge plus

FYI I've been to Alaska 25+ times and love it.

I am also looking at this sailing.   What do you think of the deck 6 obstructed ocean view cabins?  Would you recommend them?  W

I think it's unusual this sailing sails out of Vancouver but does not go between Vancouver island and the mainland.  Isn't that unusual?

I have wanted to sail on the Pacific Princess for a long time and this cruise finally connected all the dots so I am now booked. I am quite excited over the intinerary as well.

When you say there is a real promenade what deck are you talking about?  Maybe I’m being daft but I don’t see it on the deck plans. Deck 5 doesn’t seem to go around.

Perhaps you you can offer some insight, or alleviate my concerns regarding the smoking areas on the ship. I am very sensitive to smoke and I am concerned that on such a small ship, I might end up never being able to get away from it. One cigar or cigarette smoker is all it takes to make an aft or midship area completely unusable for me. I usually sail on the Grand Class or the Island and have always been able to get away from smokers. I also always book aft cabins and that gives me a balcony space free of smoke.

In your experience does this ship tend to attract a lot of smokers?  I know it’s the luck of the draw and the past may not predict the future but I’d still find your experience helpful if you would be so kind as to share.

Thank you you in advance for any help you can provide.

We have been to Alaska 3 times (we kinda like it).  And yes, it would be a great choice for Alaska.  So great that we have booked the July 29, 2020 sailing proceeded by a Connoisseur Escorted Tour starting on July 21.

Doug, thanks a lot for the information, I appreciate it very much.  From the pictures that I have seen, it looks like one of the old Renaissance cruise ships --- do you know if this is true?

Yes it is.  You will find it physically almost identical to the Azamara Quest.

Thanks for your reply.  We are big Alaska fans as well (20+ cruises) --- the itinerary on the PP is a nice combo and definitely worth our consideration.

While it does not go completely around there is a wide covered promenade deck on each side with real teak loungers.

Another beautiful location is the forward facing Pacific Lounge towards the bow on Deck 10.  Great location with inclement weather.  Imagine, a forward facing lounge.  Too bad Princess didn't consider something like that on the Royal Class ships

The main smoking area is on deck 5 (the casino). You can get around it by going to the Promenade.

That being said it's a very small casino. There's a hallway to the right of the casino when you're facing forward. The deck plan labels it "photo gallery". The deck plan shows a wall (I don't recall if it runs the length of the photo gallery).

We've been on the Pacific twice and the casino was usually empty. Rarely saw a smoker (but that could be timing).

I hate the smell of smoke, although it doesn't cause any physical discomfort, and when I absolutely can't avoid walking through or by a smoking area I hold my breath and walk fast.😁🏃‍♀️

Oh I do love the teak deck loungers on the promenade decks! QM2 is fabulous for them and last time we were on the Island she had them too. I will definitely look forward to this on the PP.  Thank you.

Well it just gets better and better. The QM2 has the Commodore Club and a gorgeous library with forward facing vista views. Loved it there and I will love it on PP too. Many thanks!

That’s great news if the smoking is not outside on the promenade deck. Do you know by chance if the casino doors are typically kept closed?

I do hold my breath and walk fast as well if I’m passing through.  What I dislike is when wonderful outdoor spaces cannot be used for relaxing, reading, visiting, wildlife viewing because of smoking.

My one complaint about the Grand is that they often leave them open sometimes flooding the atrium on that deck with the passenger service desk in smoke.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I don't recall if there was a smoking area on the Promenade (it's been a couple of years). I'm pretty sure I remember a smoking area near the pool...it was small and stuffed in a corner.

There were no doors for the casino. We walked on the Promenade or the Photo Gallery. Occasionally, we'd shortcut through the casino...when it was empty.

BTW: I Googled "Pacific Princess post drydock" and got the link to a video that a CC member posted shortly after the drydock...https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2505193-pacific-princess-post-refurbishment-tour/

The casino starts a minute or 2 after 4:00.

Also, be sure to bring a really warm coat (regardless of where you're cruising), the Cabaret Lounge was like being in a refrigerator.
