panoramaofthepast Posted December 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted December 3, 2018 (edited) Since the last time we were on a Princess cruise, there is now a "progressive check in" by deck, at least in Ft. Lauderdale. So - a few questions, if anyone can answer them! How recent is this process? How strictly is this enforced? The email I received indicated that the first group on board will not be boarding until 12:30 and the final group [that's us!] will not be allowed to board until 2:30. If I show up earlier, will I be allowed to check in or will I be asked to stay outside until the designated time? I know several lines have gone to this type of system and I know someone has to be last, but I hate to lose several hours roaming around a new ship because of this. Normally we would show up for checkin around 11, understanding that we would probably have to wait, but I have almost never waited later than noon to board. Any suggestions? EDDY0827 Posted December 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted December 3, 2018 It's not mandatory, show up and board as you wish.
miss prairie girl Posted December 3, 2018 #3 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Arrive at your convenience! You will be checked in and boarded! Do note that the cabins are not usually available until 1:00 or a little after. But you are free to roam and explore the cruise ship! Enjoy your cruise! paul929207 Posted December 3, 2018 #4 Share Posted December 3, 2018 The boarding info you got is a suggestion, not a mandate.
skynight Posted December 3, 2018 #5 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Show up when you want and you will be boarded. The notification has been going on for years. To me it's silly and customer unfriendly. The entire ship can be boarded in an hour, so why try to string it out?
panoramaofthepast Posted December 3, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted December 3, 2018 My thanks for your answers! You confirmed what I had already suspected, but it's helpful to hear it from other veteran cruisers.
Colo Cruiser Posted December 3, 2018 #7 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Been around for a few years. Let’s hope they don’t ever start enforcing it.
voljeep Posted December 3, 2018 #8 Share Posted December 3, 2018 only 'applies' to blue, ruby, and gold, anyway... maybe it could be enforced if needed ??
Rare TracieABD Posted December 3, 2018 #9 Share Posted December 3, 2018 Just cruised last week and they did not appear to be holding people to their assigned (suggested) boarding. Just show and go!
floridalover5623 Posted December 3, 2018 #10 Share Posted December 3, 2018 After boarding they might tell you that the rooms won't be ready until 1 PM but you can always drop off your luggage in the cabin & go to lunch rather than carry it around with you,
