Rare Timeforvaca Posted December 15, 2018 #26 Share Posted December 15, 2018 We’re onboard. Still in port 5.5 hours after we were supposed to sail. Casino closed so obviously a serious situation. Nothing communicated to passengers. Hoping it gets resolved!!
Rare ghstudio Posted December 15, 2018 #27 Share Posted December 15, 2018 This is the point where everyone waits for Miami to decide what to do next. At the worst, they have lost the use of one of the two bow thrusters (I assume that they can just take the "bad" thruster off-line). At this point, the only thing passengers are missing is the casino being closed. Everything else should be pretty normal Diver 2 just went back in the water so they are still working on it. Rare CruisingWalter Posted December 15, 2018 #28 Share Posted December 15, 2018 Just now, ghstudio said: This is the point where everyone waits for Miami to decide what to do next. Do they have 2 or 3 bow thrusters? There are three markings for thrusters on the side of the bow.
CoconutOne Posted December 15, 2018 #29 Share Posted December 15, 2018 There could definitely be worse places to be stuck! At least you're not far from FLL and everyone has phone/internet service. Hope it gets resolved soon!
Rare ghstudio Posted December 15, 2018 #30 Share Posted December 15, 2018 (edited) You are correct...I read wrong...there are three bow thrusters. They just brought up another short piece of the stuck line. One of the big problems working on thrusters is that there are large grates on both sides of the thruster propeller which make it very hard to get to something wrapped around or stuck on the blade itself. I don't envy those divers. Edited December 15, 2018 by ghstudio
JPPhillips Posted December 15, 2018 #31 Share Posted December 15, 2018 Has there been any public announcement yet about the situation and if it will impact the schedule?
Rare ghstudio Posted December 15, 2018 #32 Share Posted December 15, 2018 Just brought up another large section of line.....but the diver is going back down, so there must still be more work to do to clear the thruster
JPPhillips Posted December 15, 2018 #33 Share Posted December 15, 2018 I see they just pulled another huge section of rope back onto the ship!

MAXII Posted December 15, 2018 #35 Share Posted December 15, 2018 It appears the divers are returning every so often with rope they are retrieving. Another very big piece was just pulled from the pier on to the ship.

Rare ghstudio Posted December 15, 2018 #39 Share Posted December 15, 2018 The line handlers are there, the divers are packing up...I'd say the Infinity is leaving Key West pretty soon.
c-legs Posted December 15, 2018 #40 Share Posted December 15, 2018 I sure hope they can call in Nassau.....even for a few short hours......otherwise, they'd be in violation of the PVSA.....one of the risks of these ''shorty'' sailings . I would not want to be the deck hand who calledf the bridge after the ''let go all '' and said '' all lines secured on deck''.....
JPPhillips Posted December 15, 2018 #41 Share Posted December 15, 2018 I so agree! I would hate to be in that persons shoes. Can you imagine how much this must have cost the cruise line! I'll bet they had to pay those divers double time for working so late.😳
Rare ghstudio Posted December 15, 2018 #42 Share Posted December 15, 2018 There would only be PVSA problems if someone boarded in Key West and was transported to Miami/FLL.
c-legs Posted December 15, 2018 #43 Share Posted December 15, 2018 I beg to differ....A ship cannot sail from a US port, and return to the same port without a stop in a foreign port, ( in this case, the Bahamas, the ever popular cal;l that allows the shorties to operate these types of sailings. My opinion only.
JPPhillips Posted December 15, 2018 #44 Share Posted December 15, 2018 Looks like everyone went home, I don't think she is going to sail tonight!
Rare ghstudio Posted December 15, 2018 #45 Share Posted December 15, 2018 I think you are right....that small open boat was there to take the line handlers out to the piers....but it just left. I guess they are going to stay the night in Key West. Since Nassau is only 280 miles, they can easily make the next port on time if they leave in the morning. JPPhillips Posted December 15, 2018 #46 Share Posted December 15, 2018 I guess time will tell, I wonder if they don't have to get the thruster looked at and approved before they are allowed to set sail.
c-legs Posted December 15, 2018 #47 Share Posted December 15, 2018 There would be case for sailing a.s.a.p....== casinos can open for a few hours......hahahaha....$$$$$....
c-legs Posted December 15, 2018 #48 Share Posted December 15, 2018 Well....the dock is now deserted......We'll soon find out if they stay put ...or go to high seas... Even with ''an abundance of caution'' which would lead to taking the thruster off line ( both sides of course....), that ship, azipod-equipped, can sail very safely with two bow thrusters on line. My opinion.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted December 15, 2018 #49 Share Posted December 15, 2018 Wow.. .was just checking again. Sure not looking good. All the deck hands look to have left.
