Go-Bucks! Posted April 22, 2019 Author #1561 Share Posted April 22, 2019 Took a tour of Bangkok in a tuk tuk! Had a scary moment in a roundabout when our driver pulled out in front of a city bus!! He stopped inches from it....yikes! But the rest of the ride was fun. 😉 Walked through a flower market where they prepare floral sacrifices to Buddha, passed tall unusual looking downtown buildings, and visited the Wat Pho temple with the HUGE reclining Buddha. Pictures of their king were everywhere because his coronation is in 2 weeks. Traffic wasn't even close to being as crazy as Saigons....busy, but not overwhelming and way fewer scooters/motorcycles.

MLA Posted April 23, 2019 #1565 Share Posted April 23, 2019 I think it would also be pretty offensive to most Thais to have someone so obviously ethnically wrong playing their King. Remember when Mickey Rooney played a Japanese man in Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Also very offensive.
bob brown Posted April 23, 2019 #1566 Share Posted April 23, 2019 Our tour guide told us that they were more concerned with the way the King was portrayed, more than who portrayed him... They considered his portrayal to be demeaning and historically inaccurate.

It is a document having to do with buying a home. If you can help, please let me know and I'll pass the info to her. Just as a tip for future long cruise travellers, I understand that the solution was to visit the US embassy. The originals were then couriered back home. Go-Bucks! Posted April 24, 2019 Author #1575 Share Posted April 24, 2019 Ko Samui, Thailand...took a great ship tour! In 4WD vehicles, we went to a rubber tree farm and got a demonstration of how they make sheets of rubber, visited a coconut place where the shop had beautiful, inexpensive wooden household items, watched a cooking demonstration of Green Papaya Salad (with a tasting), saw a waterfall, but best of all was being able to interact with 3 young elephants! It was a sanctuary for rescued ones. Made friends with 3 darling little boys too.
