If I am leaving for a cruise, and per my insurance it is too soon to get med refills, or if trip will last longer than my med supply, how do I get what I need? . Advice?

I was able to contact my insurance, provide the dates of my travel as well as the fact that I would be on a cruise and therefore unable to fill the scripts at a US pharmacy. They then provided an override in the computer system that let the pharmacy process it early. As far as insurance issues go, it was a pretty easy one to get resolve thankfully.

We do something similar.

First, we have the physician write a specific Rx that includes the extra days/amount (and add a week in case of delays!), and then we give that to the pharmacist who then calls the insurance for the authorization.

Haven't had a problem yet with early fills or longer fills, etc., including once for a controlled substance (which we thought would be near impossible).

Yes, I use the CVS on-line pharmacy (CareMark, required by my insurance) with 90 day supply prescriptions, and they just ask that I notify them 10 days prior to the trip of any refills that I will need early, how long I will be gone, and they send the early refills as needed.
