Carnival Hub App

Yes, the chat feature is $5 per device for the whole trip. I use it every cruise, but find it very spotty. I keep having to log out and log in again to see chats. I also don't get any sound for a notification which is irritating! Have to keep checking. It's not very efficient in my opinion. When it works it's great, when it doesn't, it's not.  The other features of it are really good. You can see all the activities each day, all the food venues and the menus, you can see your account activity, book excursions, etc.  Best to download it before you go and use the countdown clock!

I had heard it didn't work much

until you boarded and submitted your folio number to the App.

I've already downloaded it onto the iPad.
Can I submit a booking number to make it function, before the cruise??

Is that what you're implying?

No, the Features of the hub app won't work until you're on board (other than the countdown clock). In order to log in, you have to have your folio number which you won't receive until you've checked in.  It's on your Sail and Sign card.  If I were you, I would download the app on to your phone unless you're planning to purchase internet package and carry your IPad around with you all the time. When you get on board click on the "I'm On Board" link for instructions on how to activate the Hub app on your phone.

I also had problems with the app and group chat on the Dream last month.

Other than that, I found the app to be very useful. You can see all of the events for the day, which sometimes gets changed and the paper fun times won't tell you that. You can also look at the menus, including daily MDR. I love to set reminders of events. Sometimes I'm out and about losing track of time, and I could miss an event. The reminder will help remind me and then from there I can either stay put or get going.

OK - I don't have a phone (but wifey does)

I already have the App downloaded to the iPad

(maybe I can persuade her about the phone too)

but tell me about the countdown clock (on either phone OR iPad,hopefully)

Is the countdown clock function already built-in to the App? -awaiting a date?

or is that an additional download then to be inserted into the App?

It's already part of the App. You just need to input all the pertinent information for your cruise.

If you've downloaded the app to your IPad, when you click on it to open, the first thing you do is put in the date of your cruise, then that starts the countdown.

Did you have the app running in the background the entire time? People say if you want new chat alerts, you can't close the app.

They've added some things, sort of. You can get the countdown clock just by entering your cruise date. And by the way, if you need to adjust the date or enter a new one, just tap the countdown. What's new is, you can log in to your Carnival account from the app. Again, it'll give you the countdown that way, if you have one booked. They also say you can use it to manage your booking, buy excursions, Cheers, wifi, etc., but all it really does is open up Carnival's website in your mobile browser. Unfortunately, it can't do any of that stuff from within the app itself.

Everything else happens when you get on board. The good part is, you don't have to purchase an internet plan to use the app.

I liked it that you can see the room charges from the app.  I wanted to keep a record of our charges but didn't know that once you step off the ship, the app doesn't work anymore!

We were on the Magic and you can see your photos taken by ship photograhers on the app about one hour after the photos are taken. We didn't have to look through paper copies which was fantastic.

I had problems downloading the app when we first boarded.  I am highly technical, I might add.   Had to go to guest services where the lady that helped me was highly technical and got the app added for me.  She had to remove and re-add it.  I thought my work VPN was blocking it because it kept looping.

‘I was surprised she did it for me, but she was fast and it worked.  I love the hub app - reminders are great . I have started to compare the paper to the app to make sure I didn’t miss anything though.

It’s always best to install the app before you get on board. The reason is, depending on what ship you’re on, wifi may not be good enough to download apps. They’ve been upgrading their wifi network throughout the fleet, but I’m not sure if they’ve done all of them yet. Besides, the internet plan you choose may not even allow you to download an app.

I have never had a problem with the APP, my hubby won't put it on his phone but he constantly is asking me what the menu is for dinner, or  location of a specific place on the ship or the one he really loved was how about ordering a pizza to be delivered here at the Casino bar.  Of course I'm the one always looking to see where our S&S count is at.  I love the app.

The chat feature worked best when you and the person you were chatting with happened to both be looking at the app at the same time. Otherwise, it's hit and miss. However, it worked great for us as a way to leave a message for someone where we would be (like an electronic post it note). If I wanted to find my wife I would check the app and see where she said she was.

I really liked being able to download my photo purchases.  That way, I've got my digital copy & can share & print as needed.  The chat feature was hit & miss for us as well.  I liked being able to check menus & activities and set reminders for the activities.  I have the app on my phone & ipad.  Sometimes I would take the ipad to breakfast & look over the activities with our travel companions.  The ipad just makes it easier to see everything.

I thought I read where you can list for Anytime Dining on the app and get an available time. Is this correct?

DEFINITELY for the Horizon, not sure for the rest of the fleet. Just try and see if it's available if you're on a ship other than Horizon. No more beepers; you can be anywhere on the ship(Stateroom, bar, outside) and the app will tell you when and what table you're assigned. You then just go to the Dining Room, tell them what table you're assigned to, and they will escort you there!

It's great for checking in for ATD!  And on the Horizon last month, it worked great!

Did you have to wait very long if you checked in using the app? We usually do early dining but are waitlisted for our cruise in November so chose ATD.

On the Horizon it was about 10 minutes on regular nights and about 20 - 30 max on Elegant nights for a table for 2 requesting a table around 7:00.

We checked in and then went straight to the Dining Room and went to our table!

Oh awesome! I hope it’s that way for us! I do like getting the same serving team each night—is there a way to note that in the app at all? I never looked at that dining option part of the app last time I was on the ship because we had early dining and obviously can’t check it out now.
