Boston Cruise Terminal to Manhattan Cruise Terminal

The 2 cruises I'm looking at have  NCL Gem arriving in Boston at 8:00 AM  and the NCL Breakaway departing the  Manhattan terminal at 5:00 pm  on the same day.

Is this  cutting it too close for consideration ?  If it's doable... what  would be best way to get to the Manhattan terminal ?

It would be way too close for comfort for me.  You’d definitely have to fly.  It looks like 8 hours, but you couldn’t book a flight before 11 am and you’d have to get from the NY airport to check in at the pier in Manhattan by 3:30.

IMHO, if I were in your place, I won't even think about risking it on a weekday with potential for ship being delayed for arrival & disembarkation, even if you have escorted priority self-walkoff.  Getting to air or ground transportation (an Uber w driver waiting for the 215+ miles drive (Google/Waze has drive time of 3:30 on a weekend morning) - flying BOS into LGA isn't necessary going to save any time, trust me as by the time your aircraft land & you get into a taxi or car service or Uber to MCT/Pier 88, it's midday & it's going to take you easily another 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach the cruise terminal.

On a non-holiday, non-summer weekend, the odds are better - but it is still very risky of not making it, ground travel by car on that route is prone to congestion, delays & accidents, road constructions & unexpected closure, etc. at all times of the year, especially by mid/late morning & midday while you are en route.

Please double check the BA's departure time as it is usually 3 or 4 pm, not 5 pm unless it's a special, i.e. T/A, repo, etc. (what month/year ?? 2020, I assume ... )

138east/Carol can probably give you her best guest on how is the "minimum connect time" to get out of Boston cruise terminal to Logan Airport ... and, whether Global Entry (if you have it) can make a difference if you still wish to think of flying.

We make that drive in 4 hours all the time, but we go waaaay early on weekend mornings.  If you are going on a weekday you will hit traffic and I'd expect 5-6 hours to get from one to the other.  Add in any delay docking or disembarking in Boston and this won't work by car

It's a Friday... I guess we're out luck on that particular thought.  It seemed like such a good idea. 👐

Yeah. Personally, I'd first check on the train. (since both terminals are downtown and closer to the port.) But no. It still is waaay to close for comfort. Especially dealing with cruise luggage and possible customs unpredictability.

Train is the way to do this one-- book the Acela Express (if possible) out of South Station which is a 6 minute ride from the cruise terminal. Depends on the day of the week as to train schedules-- I think the Acela would be preferred as they save you about 40 minutes but there are regional trains that can get you there in time as well.

Used to live in Boston and flying to New York wont save you much time vs the train and theres a chance that weather can delay the flight even more. The train doesn't run into traffic and delivers you at Penn Station which is a 5-6 minute cab ride to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
