hobgoblin Posted May 7, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2019 Hi We have just booked on IONA for June 2020. Having only ever sailed with Celebrity I wondered if some cruisers can point out what I might notice is different . I believe some ships have laundry onboard ,will Iona I have also been reading about Black and white nights and tropical nights ,are they on all the cruises or just the Caribbean routes? Any information and tips appreciated .
jaydee6969 Posted May 7, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2019 Hi, we are also on Iona in June 2020. On the Iona deck plans there are definitely launderettes for passenger use on most decks. On our trip to Norway last year on Azura we had 2 formal nights, one of which was a black and white night. This is typical for a 7 night P&O cruise. daiB Posted May 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 7, 2019 Tropical nights are not restricted to the Caribbean. They are not on every cruise but on most. Your Cruise personaliser will give you the details when it comes out. It is covered under FAQ’s on the P&O site, where each cruise for each ship is detailed but Iona is not listed yet. Highpeaklad Posted May 8, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 8, 2019 The formal nights are very formal on P&O.
Dwalkerdave Posted May 8, 2019 #5 Share Posted May 8, 2019 It is unlikely you will get a Caribbean night on a Norway cruise as it is only 7 nights of which 2 are formal.
Pentlands Posted May 9, 2019 #6 Share Posted May 9, 2019 We are on a 7 nighter and have two formal and one tropical night.
Rare Sarah1974 Posted May 9, 2019 #7 Share Posted May 9, 2019 I am on a 7 night cruise on Britannia this June and there's a black & white night and an 80s night - not sure what to expect of either!
swaddy Posted May 9, 2019 #8 Share Posted May 9, 2019 Black and white is formal, although there's always someone who wears a stunning sequined multi coloured dress , just to not conform. 80's is casual and mostly a non event.
tartanexile81 Posted May 9, 2019 #9 Share Posted May 9, 2019 (edited) Because none of us have been on Iona yet (but booked to do so!) it's hard to say what differences you will find. As a general rule though you will find that the passengers are 98% British; the buffets are lack lustre; the food is aimed at British palates; the entertainment is livelier and IMO better; the bar prices are cheaper and no service charge is dded to the drinks; service is more discreet. I think the main thing is not to get on looking for things you prefer on Celebrity / don't like about Iona etc. We're on Infinity this Summer and we know it's an older ship and smaller than we like really but we also know we'll enjoy ourselves because we're going to enjoy ourselves not to moan. Also we got a free drinks package 🍾 Edited May 9, 2019 by tartanexile81
hobgoblin Posted May 9, 2019 Author #10 Share Posted May 9, 2019 Thanks everyone for your comments . Guess Ill have to wait see what the formal nights are and any other themes . Guessing we are going to enjoy a bit more chat with our fellow Brits than on Celebrity . Are the excursions for Norway expensive?

Everything in Norway is expensive!
