tonit964 Posted May 26, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2019 My ex is on the Splendor and they are still docked in Long Beach. The Captain announced they are having engine issues. Cabo is the first port on Monday and I'm sure if they aren't able to get moving soon, it's going to alter the itinerary. Everything is as normal on the ship except the shops and Casino are closed. tonit964 Posted May 26, 2019 Author #2 Share Posted May 26, 2019 Got an update, they will stay docked until 5:00am tomorrow and then move so the Imagination/Inspiration ( don't know which one) can debark passengers. They are flying in a technician to work on the issue. They will not be going to Mazatlan but will go to Cabo & Puerto Vallarta.

Ranyw Posted May 26, 2019 #4 Share Posted May 26, 2019 Does the ship still have bad mojo from the fire in 2010 ? We are booked at the end of July on the splendor. Makes me nervous. I wasn't going to buy trip insurance, but I think we may need it now.
Hobie Posted May 26, 2019 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2019 Thanks for the news. I woke up a few minutes ago (6:18 am now) and saw the Splendor anchored in Long Beach Harbor. The Imagination is docked where she is supposed to be. I hope that they get the Splendor repaired fast!

They still got a 7 day cruise as they embarked yesterday as usual, they just haven't sailed away yet but all of the ship services like dining, shows and music venues were operating as usual. They even had the sail away deck party. The only difference is they are not moving. I think out of the three ports, they decided to skip the best one. I'm not sure if that qualifies for a future cruise credit though. It will if they can't get the problem fixed and the cruise is canceled. I do feel bad for everyone, especially the new cruisers. In all my cruises, I've been lucky not to have had this ever happen. Have missed ports though. Let's hope they'll be on their way soon.

I always have travel insurance and they can reimburse me MORE then what carnival can do. this is why you always need travel insurance
cherylandtk Posted May 27, 2019 #13 Share Posted May 27, 2019 There is one third party policy brand out there, Nationwide, that reimburses for missed port inconvenience, itinerary changes and prepaid excursions. But those items are not typically covered in the majority of trip policies. Splendor pax with a Nationwide policy are eligible for a $200-$250 benefit because the ship left port more than 3 hours late, plus the cost of any NR excursions up to $1000. Other brands do not typically cover this type of event; one must read the fine print and know what you are purchasing.

Think $ 50 is reasonable as long as ship gets moving and only miss one port

A minor inconvenience for some, but a major inconvenience, if you're a gambler, for others. Garnett

CSA Insurance (I purchased it through insuremytrip dot com) also does this... we missed Key West after Hurricane Irma came calling in 2017 and ended up getting reimbursed almost $500 for both of us. cherylandtk Posted May 27, 2019 #17 Share Posted May 27, 2019 I believe CSA is now Generali Global insurance; I do not see a missed port coverage in their current offerings. But thanks for mentioning your past experiences. Coverages and policies are frequently modified and one must check the details every time, even when purchasing the ‘same’ policy as before. I was told by the Captain, while taking the Behind the fun Tour on the Splendor in December of 2009 (the cruise when the ship hit the dock in Puerto Vallarta and we had to stay an extra day while they repaired it and we missed Mazatlan) that the ship is cursed. But it is my favorite Carnival ship! We sail again on Aug. 31st! so sad she is leaving Long Beach but also excited for our Jan. 2020 cruise on the new Panorama. chengkp75 Posted May 29, 2019 #21 Share Posted May 29, 2019 Of course the Captain who hit a dock would blame it on a cursed ship! 1
