Summit Concierge Questions

I hope these are not stupid questions. We are on the Summit in July to Bermuda in a Concierge cabin. We cruised earlier this year on a weekend cruise on Infinity also Concierge but it was so short we didn't really get to experience anything on the ship (no CC activities at all). The only benefit we got was the embarkation lunch (didn't get the wine in our cabin or any afternoon appetizers). My question is about the actual "concierge" part of the concierge cabin. What does the concierge actually do for you? We are low-maintenance, self-sufficient people. We already have specialty restaurant reservations. Anything else the concierge can do for us that I should be aware of? We are only CC Select. Are there any CC events we might get invited to? One final question - we will be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary on the cruise (we took a RCCL cruise to Bermuda on our honeymoon). The anniversary is noted in our reservation. Is Celebrity likely to acknowledge it in any way? Thanks so much for your input!

We we were on Infinity in a Concierge cabin earlier this month. We were invited to the helipad for our arrival in Gibraltar.

There was a cocktail party for Concierge class guests in the Constellation lounge (if that’s what it’s called on Infinity). We didn’t attend as it was at 8.00pm and we wanted to go to dinner in time to catch the 9.30 show.

We didn’t use the services of the Concierge at all.

We were on the Summit a few weeks ago, in a CC cabin on deck 8, nice location. The concept of a concierge is over rated, IMO, on Celebrity, especially after one travel companion asked about making dining reservations - she was told "Do it on the App yourself!" The afternoon "bites" were questionable and often unidentifiable, dining room lunch when we first got on the ship was nice for one friend who has limited mobility. We missed the "special get-together" but since we are elite +, headed to the Sky Lounge [oops, it has been re-named, but we still call it Sky. Our travel friends got their sparkling wine and gave it to us - we exchanged it for white wine, but never got our bottle.

We have been on other ships with so called Concierge class service, and for the most part, have had better experiences.  We don't *need* a lot of hand-holding or service, so concierge isn't a big deal for us.

IMHO not a lot of benefits to Concierge class.  Embarkation day lunch, 5 Captains Club points per night vs 3 for veranda,  the CC and AQ cabins on M Class ships are about 20sf larger than a regular veranda.  On S Class all the same size.  Don’t care for the afternoon canapés or the sparkling wine.

Never had a need for the Concierge.

We booked a Concierge cabin on Equinox for an upcoming cruise because it was the cheapest way to get a cabin on the hump with an extended balcony - with our one category upgrade for booking onboard, we got a C2 for less than a 1A would have cost us. I wouldn't pay an upcharge for it otherwise - the benefits are really nothing paying for.

OP Congrats on your anniversay.

If you tell your maitre d ahead of time,  you  may get the standard  very choc anniv cake at dinner.. with or without singing or fanfare.!

We are going to try Concierge  again after many yrs in AQ class...

We feel AQ Class is not getting much attention lately.....no lunch, no party, no priority  disembark. BLU is becoming crowded and less special feeling. The thermal suites/ Persian Gardens are nice on S class, outstanding on EDGE, but not that great on M Class.

On EDGE I believe that Concierge guests were recently  invited to a small port sailaway party with the "Golden Penguins" ..just outside the spa area!

Price will dictate our choice..but  after 2 in a Sunset Veranda and a reg vakc cabin on Summit... going back to Concierge may be next!

What is the new name for Sky?

I would have put in a comment card about your Concierge..not everyone has or uses the app and your fare includes services from the Concierge...

All of the paperwork [invitations to Elite 5:-7: gathering] and signage around the ship about the lounge say Sky, but the wall outside of the venue says either Reflections or Rendezvous...guess they need to decide what to call it. I mentioned that to the  Elite hostess as we were entering the lounge.  I deleted the App from my phone, so I can't check back....it's a concept that needs further review.

The online survey is awful, and doesn't cover problematic areas/issues. They company wants to hear positive comments, not negative experiences.  I agree about the App, many passengers want to turn off their iphones for a week, but with Celebrity's emphasis on technology, passengers are at a disadvantage without wifi access to book dining, schedule spa services, book a tour, etc. Not quite as techo as we experienced on the Edge, but a necessary evil for many.

"Concierge Class" is a title given to certain rooms.  Good marketing by X.

There is no dedicated concierge person for those guests only.  There has always been a "Concierge" on the ship, but he/she was for everyone...I I still don't know what that person does for anyone.

On M class Ships, (Summit included) the concierge class rooms are slightly larger which is nice.  On S Class they are the same size as other veranda rooms.  Otherwise, the concierge class perks are pretty minimal.

So, IMHO, don't pay much extra for Concierge and don't expect much.

Comment cards can be requested from Guest Rel...mostly we use them for compliments about staff members but  are multi purpise...They are read prompty on board, and acknowledged.

I  have read recent posts about a Concierge being more active for that Class and organizing  disembark etc.. So is that  not really true????

The observation lounges high up at the front of Celebrity ships have different names on different ships.

So rather than having to remember all the individual names of those lounges on all the different ships,  it is much easier to use "sky lounge" as the generic name for the forward observation lounge of any Celebrity ship,.

When someone uses the term "sky lounge" on a Celebrity ship, most passengers and crew know exactly which lounge on the ship it means.

This is very helpful for those who cruise on different Celebrity ships, not having to try to remember all the official names of the forward observation lounges on each of the different ships.

The term "sky lounge" is not used for the Rendezvous lounge because that is a totally different lounge near the back of the ship on a lower deck.

Actually there now is a decicated Concierge for Concierge Class passengers.  A couple of years ago there wasn’t a Concierge other than the one who handled things for anyone on the ship.  The Concierge can be helpful if you have a problem I.e luggage lost by airline, perks you booked not showing up, but for the most you go to see them, wait a bit and ask them to make a dinner reservation which you could have done in 1/2 the time.

Does the Concierge organize events for Concierge guests? What about disembarkation ? ..are you escorted off the ship?

On NCL, the Concierge escorts Haven guests off the ship. When I've sailed on NCL in a Haven class cabin, we have been escorted from the waiting area onto the ship, too.  I've never had a Celebrity concierge do this. Any events for concierge guests may be listed on a printed info page in your cabin, nothing special. In fact, when we were checking in a few weeks ago, I had to ask, twice, for the little coupon invitation to the luncheon. The woman next to me checking in received one, so I asked my check-in person - seemed a big effort for her to walk about 10 feet to obtain it. IMO, great marketing concept, but question exactly their "exclusive" role.

On Celebrity guests staying in Suites are escorted off the ship by the Suite Concierge  and are the first to board the ship.

We have stayed in a Royal suite twice and never had any concierge perk like that.  The butler was a nice touch, having breakfast served to us at a real table instead of room service on a tray. We're satisfied with concierge cabins for their location and slightly larger size on some ships. After multiple cruises on numerous ships, we find we need less and less hand-holding and simply enjoy being on the ocean, often appreciating fewer of the marketing perks.
