Question about Havana area

Can you give one of your extra Havana bracelets to an adult guest not staying in a Havana room?  

 

Let me explain the situation:

 

My husband and I went on Vista last October and stayed in one of the wrap around Havana balconies.  We loved the Havana area.  We were given 4 bracelets even though there were only two of us.  We talked to another couple on board who planned to give their extra bracelets to friends but I never heard if that worked or not because I did not see them again.  

 

I booked a cruise again on the Vista and got the same Havana balcony.  I wanted to book my nanny (age 37) with my kids in another Havana room but because my kids are under 12, Carnival would not allow it.  Therefore, I got them one of the family harbor rooms. 

 

When the kids are at the Kids program during the day, will my nanny be able to come in the Havana area with one of my extra bracelets even though she is booked in a non-Havana room?

I am just wondering why you were given 4 bracelets if there were only two guests listed in the room??  Not your fault, but I am just curious.   

As a cruiser who is looking forward to my upcoming cruise in the Havana area, I sure don't want people who did not pay the premium price to be allowed in the area(prior to 7pm).  Not trying to sound snobby, but we decided to pay the extra to avoid the crowded lido deck pools and hot tubs and to be able to enjoy the Havana area where it is way less crowded.

Nissach - I don't know why we were given extra bracelets but everyone we talked to was given extra bracelets.  I didn't give them out.  

 

But at least when we were there, it was NEVER crowded. Half the time, it was empty or only a couple of people there.  There were a number of times I was the only one there. I posted pics once and people asked if I was on a yacht because I was the only one in the pool just floating with a drink.  The only time it even got a little busy was sea days late in the afternoon and then it still wasn't too busy or crowded.

 

Even at night when it was open to everyone, it was busier, but not insane.

Also, I noticed that a lot of people in the Havana aft or premium Vista balconies just sat on their balconies and did not come down to the Havana area.  We did that quite a bit, too.  So that probably also contributes to people with Havana rooms not using the area. 

 

Also, perhaps because of the age requirement, the Havana area didn't have people with kids unless they had left them at home. We only talked to one other couple who had young kids like us.  Everyone else were young working couples with no kids or their kids were grown.   So that also means you are not fighting teens, college kids or people with young kids.

I believe they change up the colors as it was rumored that some were being sold on ebay. I have 2 of 2 different colors from my cruises in the Havana area. Crowded or not, it is cheating to give wristbands to non Havana guests.

We just got off the Horizon Sunday. We had a Havana Cabana. We were given 3 wristbands for 3 guests. Those rooms were expensive. I'd be ticked if someone got the same amenities as I did and didn't pay for them. There were several times they asked guests to leave because they did not have Havana area rooms. Most knew they weren't suppose to be there and left quietly. Some complained and asked for a supervisor. Still had to leave. The pool area was busy during our cruise. We loved it.

I hope that they let her go in with you guys. You paid a premium for the Family Harbor room as well so everyone talking about Havana leeches or whatever are just being mean

I have never ever seen a Havana wristband being sold on eBay and if you go search right now there are zero results...

So would it be ok for the Havana guests to invade the Family Harbor lounge as well?  I think the benefit of both of those areas is the number of people in them are limited; if people start bringing in others, everyone loses.  IMO of course.

 

As for the ebay sales, that was more popular when the bands first came out because they were always the same color.  Now that it varies, it doesn't make sense to buy bands and just hope they're the right color.

 

I'm not 100% positive, but I think even if a band were donated to another cruiser, your sail and sign can be checked to see if you really belong there or not.  I'm sure YMMV will vary, as with many rules on Carnival, but being kicked out would be awkward.

In addition to the bracelet, a sticker is placed on your card and until they get to know you it must be shown prior to entering. And yes, we watched as two women were told to leave who insisted they could be there because they were Diamond class. Nope! And honestly, it makes me mad when people try to sneak in because I paid double price of what my balcony usually costs just to have the private area free of small children. It isn't that I don't like kids but being on the lido deck with swarms of children in the hot tub having pickle fights....well, lets just say I just value my kid free zone and it's worth every penny to me.

I don't think it's mean at all.  I am looking forward to my upcoming cruise on the Horizon.  I paid extra for a Havana room so I could enjoy the pool area without it being crazy.  I typically avoid the pool area because of all the kids and tons of people.  I'm not against kids at all and am happy to avoid the area if I don't want to deal with the splashing and such.  The allure of the Havana area, and the reason people pay extra, is the have a relaxing, uncrowded area.  So I certainly hope that people who aren't in Havana rooms do not get access to the pool area.

It ended up not mattering. The whole cruise was cancelled because the Vista had to be dry docked.

The rooms right across the hallway from the Havana rooms are non Havana rooms so you are going to have to deal with kids regardless. Kids aren't going to get into the Havana pool area because it is an adult-only area.  My issue was never with paying more. I would have booked my kids in a Havana room just so the nanny could have Havana access if they had allowed me to do that. That's part of what makes ZERO sense. I can book my kids in a room right across the hallway OR next door to my Havana room but I can't have them stay in the Havana room with me even if they don't go to the Havana area? Stupid.

And by the way, I did do this on my upcoming cruise. I have a Havana premium balcony and my kids are in the connecting NON-Havana premium balcony room. Make ZERO sense. I have no desire for them to go to the Havana area anyway. They are going to the Kids

aren't those actually Interior Havana rooms. I've got an interior Havana on Vista in a few weeks. I'm not a big Balcony fan but wanted to give Havana a shot

The whole idea of the Havana area is less people and NO young kids.  My kids are all grown up now so I for one am very much looking forward to my Havana Cabana on the Vista the end of August.  I don't believe there should be any exceptions for access to the pool area during Havana hours.  7am=7pm.  You want access?  Pay for the upgrade.  Its pretty Black and White.

Agree fully. I was not sure I wanted to pay so much more for the Havana area, so when I go on Vista soon, I am going to go scope it out for myself within the required parameters (in a respectful way, AFTER 7 pm, and have no kids). I might get sold on it!

No, they are not.  Not on decks six and seven on the Vista. Only on deck 5. Also, the premium balconies next to the premium Havana on one floor and the premium next to the corner balcony on another are not Havana rooms but they are ALL in the same area. And I know this because I have stayed in the room.  Currently, I have my Havana room booked with an adjoining non Havana premium for my kids aNd my parents booked directlty across in a non Havana across the hall in am interior.

At no point did I ever say I wanted my kids to come in the Havana area.  I myself do NOT want kids in the Havana area!!!!!

 

Nor do I have an issue paying for the upgrade!!!! READ.I would pay for an upgrade if they allowed it!!!!

 

My issue is not that I want my children in the Havana pool area people!!!!!!!  My issue is I want my kids to stay in the same room with me or someone else in my party in a Havana balcony so the ADULT can access the Havana room and Carnival will not allow me to have my kids in the room EVEN THOUGH the rooms next door and immediately across the hall are NOT Havana rooms. Also, my kids can't be booked in a room by themselves.  

 

So an adult in my party doesn't get access to the HAVANA area when every since other person in our party does....which SUCKS for them!!!!!! Would you want to be the one adult in a party of 9 people who doesn't get to go to the Havana area when all the other adults do?????

 

Simply because YOU got stuck in the three person room with the kids?

 

Again, I can't pay for the upgrade with an under 12 kid in the room. It's not an issue of paying!

 

And, again, I am not wanting to take my kids in the Havanw pool area and they are already staying in a non Havana room in the "room area" which is permissible.

 

During the day, the children will be at kids club

I really don't understand why this seems so impossible to understand and why people keep replying telling me to pay for the upgrade and act like I am trying to be cheap. THAT'S NOT THE ISSUE!!!! 

 

It wasn't the issue for my July cruise that was cancelled nor is it the issue for the upcoming December rescheduled cruise we are taking instead. 

 

Nor is it the issue that I want my kids in the Havana POOL area.  My kids will be in the kids club during the day. I don't want them in the Havana area either!!!!  

 

The issue is that my husband, my in laws, my sister in law, my parents, my nanny and my 2 kids are all going on a cruise.  Everyone but the one poor soul who gets stuck in a room with the under 12 kids will have access to the Havana area. (And probably not my mother because she is in a wheelchair and would not care about it anyway and just hangs out in the casino all day anyway....but that's unrelated.)  So, basically, my poor nanny (who is 38) is going to be excluded from the Havana area when all the rest of us are there simply because carnival makes me book her on the room to the right of me rather than the left because she is booked with an under 12 person.

 

My only other idea would be to book my kids with mother who won't care about Havana anyway, but then there are issues with her needing a wheelchair room.

 

And before anyone accusses me of being cheap again... I am paying for ALL these people to go on the cruise!!!

To clarify: The wheelchair room is a two person and not a three person room and Carnival won't allow you to book three people in a two person room EVEN if one of them can easily sleep in bed with one of the others and even if u pay 3 person price for a 2

If you stay on deck five adjacent to the Havana area....every single room is Havana, so there are zero kids in this area so I did not have to deal with the rug rats last August and won't have to deal with them again in a month's time when we're back on the Horizon.

If the rules that Carnival has set up regarding the Havana area do not seem to suit you, then you always have the option to choose another cruise line.

In case you thought about booking your mother in a HC room and then giving her Havana band to your nanny, that will not work out.  There are zero handicapped rooms in the Havana area on any of the 3 Vista Class ships (Vista, Horizon, Panorama), there are however 3 HE Havana Cabana handicapped rooms on the under construction Mardi Gras, which you can use for a possible future cruise.

I think they changed that because I called and one of the Aft facing on deck 7 of the Vista is now handicapped accessible, but you have to be approved for it and call in and talk with their services department to make sure it will work for you.  Or, perhaps, it is semi accessible.  Perhaps for a regular wheelchair but not an extra wide one.  My mother can walk short distances with a walker.  Her problem with being in a wheelchair is pain related and not paralysis related and also because she is a fall risk. She had an arythmia surgery and the surgeon accidentally partially severed her phrenic nerve so doesn't always get enough oxygen. She has an oxygen tank, but does not always use it. Then, one time she blacked...which is when she broke her back or broke a vertebrae or something.  (I don't recall exact diagnosis, but she did not sever her spinal cord.) Has had two surgeries on her back but it has not eliminated her pain so now has pain with walking. So, she can walk with a walker, but has pain. Also, we have to watch her since she has fallen before if she walks.  She is almost is mid 70s, too. 

 

She is too vain to be seen in a swimsuit so won't go near a swimming pool anyway. But I can give her a couple of hundred dollars and she will be as happy as a pig in mud in the casino. We probably won't even see her again, lol.  Maybe for dinner...maybe.

The room area on the 6th and 7th floor are NOT adult only and I know this because I have stayed in one before.  I don't want a room on the fifth floor because there aren't balconies and I prefer a balcony rather than a porch.

 

Look, I don't have a problem with people wanting to avoid kids. Before I had kids, I wanted to avoid them, too. I just think it is absolutely moronic that I can book the room to my left for my kids or the room across the hallway from my Havana Room but not put the kids in the Havana room with me. My kids are not going to be less annoying across the hallway or one room down than they are in my Havana room.  (Actually, they really aren't annoying at all.  They go to a private parochial school that puts an emphasis on teaching manners and behavior.)  Regardless, it's not so much an issue of not wanting to obey rules as much as their rules make ZERO sense.  I can understand prohibiting kids from being in the Havana Pool area...but why prohibit them from being in a room with their parents when they can simply be in a room across the hallway?  It's nonsensical. It's a rule without reason.  (And there is nothing wrong with questioning nonsensical rules. After all, that's the basis of the entire American way of life and government. We wouldn't be a country if we did not question nonsensical rules.)

 

By the way, I am guessing you have not been around many teens or preteens because my five and seven year old are ANGELS compared to many of the 13-16 year olds I know. And the rule for the Havana room is 12 and under. So you aren't getting away from misbehaving or obnoxious kids by being in the Havana area. 

In general, the 5-11 age range is when kids are at their best behaved because they are in the stage where they want to please adults and obey everything you say.
