RadioPeri Posted June 26, 2019 #1 Share Posted June 26, 2019 We're longtime, veteran ocean cruisers leaving for our first river cruise (AmaPrima Basel to Amsterdam) this weekend. I'm assuming packing is similar, except fewer pool/beach-type things since the emphasis is so squarely on sightseeing. Planning on simple sundresses/capris for dinner (khakis and golf shirts/button downs for the hubs). We each have something a bit fancier for one or two meals. Good walking shoes and sneakers for touring/biking/walking. Power converters/adapters/chargers, etc. Anything else I need to know???
AF-1 Posted June 26, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 26, 2019 Have fun; we are doing same itinerary next May. Someone mentioned in another thread to pack a windbreaker; they say it can get cold on top deck.
Rare notamermaid Posted June 26, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2019 A hat or cap against sunstroke perhaps? And insect repellent before you leave if you are prone to being bitten and prefer a specific brand. Cover your shoulders, it is hot and going to stay that way until Monday, after that less heat. Binoculars are good if you want to see details along the embankment. Have a great cruise. notamermaid
cruiseryyc Posted June 26, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2019 A shawl or scarf of some kind that you can use to cover your shoulders in case you tour any churches; plus it can be used against any chill in the air in the evenings.

Yes, thank you. I always stash a couple of pashminas and a cardigan, and my husband will have a jacket and fleece. As for rain, I think we're going with travel umbrellas and ponchos. And yes, we saw the current heatwave. Luckily, we fly into Zurich Sunday night/Monday morning, and it's supposed to break then!
