Lawn Club Grill on Cold Weather Sailings

Just booked a Norwegian Fjords cruise on the Silhouette for 1st September.  Have only sailed on the Equinox and Eclipse before so have no experience of this dining venue.  Does anybody know whether the Lawn Club Grill and The Porch are used on chillier cruises?

LCG is our favorite specialty dining venue.  I would not describe it as "pretty enclosed."   It's an outdoor restaurant, high on the ship, with big plastic flaps that can be lowered when it's cold and/or windy, and patio heaters.  But none of that was any match for the cold temps and winds -- specially the winds  -- that we experienced last fall on the Silhouette early in the sailing on our north Atlantic crossing.   Frankly, LCG should not even have been open that night.     There were maybe four of us nutcases there, totally wrapped up with blankets around our heads.  Later in the crossing, we had a much more pleasant dinner there.

OP: so yes, LCG is used on "chillier cruises"  -- they have blankets up there for a good reason -- but your comfort will depend very much on the weather variables that day, and I would say particularly whether there's a cold wind.  The plastic flaps can't keep that out.  Definitely dress for the outside temperatures.

Tip: don't fill up on the salad and certainly not on the flatbread!

Enjoy your cruise!

Did LCG twice this June on Reflection to Iceland.

Very cool, breezy and supplemental heaters only partially effective.  Number dining was low due to discomfort.

Because of unpleasant conditions, $27.50-$30 available most nights.

Never saw Porch open and assume it was also the weather.

Good Luck

We were on Reflection to Iceland June 3-14. Had dinner one night in LCG at sea between Akureyri and Cork. No problem at all. It was cool but we with blankets on our laps, wearing a jacket and the heaters on, we had an awesome time. We also ate lunch at the Porch (one of the best seafood meals I have ever had) while docked in Akureyri. No problem then either.

Had eaten at LCG on Silhouette between Belfast and Lerwick a few years ago. Same experience. No problems. One thing to remember about our experience. We are from Seattle so we are used to cold weather. Fellow cruisers from Florida were freezing.

Lawn Club Grill on Silhouette has patio heaters and is pretty enclosed - we ate there several times on Baltic cruise - very comfortable and food was good. Never saw anyone at the Porch.

You will be fine- The area is protected and comfortable.
