jscholl279 Posted August 11, 2019 #1 Share Posted August 11, 2019 We were informed that Barcelona is being replaced with Tarragona, Spain on our Transatlantic cruise on 4/18/2020. We were only told it was because of a conflict and Escape will not include Barcelona for the foreseeable future. Does anyone know why this change happened? So far, it's only on Escape. The Getaway had the same itinerary starting on the 23rd, but we fear that Barcelona will be replaced if we make the switch. Any thoughts?
Rare shof515 Posted August 11, 2019 #2 Share Posted August 11, 2019 Could be a berthing conflict . The Escape was due to be in Barcelona on April 30. On April 30, the following ships in port: Costa Fortuna, Seven Seas Splendor and Silver Wind
mertziek Posted August 11, 2019 #3 Share Posted August 11, 2019 Life would be so much simpler if when they change ports they told us the actual reason. This way we all are left conjuring up reasons. I can handle itinerary changes but just tell me why.

We've seen the smaller ships dock at the smaller quays. The week after Escape should be calling at Barcelona, on Thu 7 May 2020. After that she's in the Baltic and out in fall via Southampton.

caneable Posted August 11, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 11, 2019 We were in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago on a land tour. Talking with a locally based tour guide it seems that there’s quite a bit of concern about heavy cruise arrivals on same days. That maybe why there are some switches. However if Barcelona is important to you, you may find that a train ride to the city is a good option.
casofilia Posted August 11, 2019 #9 Share Posted August 11, 2019 First thing check the number of ships in Barcelona on the date you are there. We were moved to Tarragona from Barcelona on the Star Transatlantic earlier this year because there were 6 other ships in Barcelona and the Star was smaller than the other NCL ship that wouldn't have fitted into Tarragona. As I said on the other thread mentioned above "It was a shambles" and NCL gave us a 10% refund.
Rare cruisequeen4ever Posted August 11, 2019 #10 Share Posted August 11, 2019 That’s odd because Barcelona has a huge port with the ability to dock multiple large ships. I too wish cruise lines would state the actual, truthful reason for itinerary changes. 😏
