Hi fellow hal cruisers.

Going on the volendam to Alaska from vancouver in june, 2020 for our first time. Have booked a package with cruise and land content with "cosmos".

Just wondering if we can pay for our cruise grats prior to sailing or do we have to get them loaded onboard??.

Thanks Bob

Technically you can’t prepay HSC.

But, what you can do is buy enough OBC (on board credit) which is on sale on the HAL site to cover it (and any other expenditures) so you will in effect have no bill when you get off.

Hope this helps.

I was able to pre-pay our hotel service charge last week for our 10 day Koningsdam cruise in November.

How????

@AtlantaCruiser72has stated that travel agents have a way to prepay gratuities other than buying general on board credit. I usually do the general on board credit.

If you booked through Cosmos (Globus subsidiary?) maybe you can check with them.  I wasn't aware that Cosmos used HAL but that's good to know.   Have a safe trip.  We've done land tours with them in the past through Europe and loved them.

Good-morning Jacqui!

Since will be doing 3 cruises 2 different lines can I just go into my account purchase my onboard credit and it will show on my account of the extra credit? We have never done pre pay OBC usually our gratuities are covered when we book on board HAL but this time we waited😒 till home.

Yes you can, Denise.

You will get a receipt via email and it will also show on "my itinerary".  Just bring the email along in case (I always do but I have never had a problem) and you should see your paid for OBC on your account later on embarkation day or by the next morning at the latest.

By the way, OBC you purchase for yourself is totally refundable if not used 😉

I usually buy some unless I have enough from HAL and/or my TA as it allows me to choose when to bite the bullet on the exchange rate, rather than be subject to the exchange rate on the day I get off the ship 😉

It works like a charm 😄

Jacqui thanks so much👍

On another note I hope your little baby ( your beautiful doggies) is doing better! I always think of them from the pics on your last wonderful cruise that I followed!

Take Care

Thanks kindly, Denise.  Miko goes for a new blood test next month and as long as the blood tests haven't gone downhill, it's going to be assumed he is not trending to renal failure and that it's due to the irregular kidney.  If that's the case he'll be neutered two weeks later when my vet is sure it will be safe.

If it has trended down, we have a problem 😞. I'm very hopeful though with the radiologists report and him, my vets and the other specialist consulting together.

Appreciate your thoughts.

login to the HAL Website. Go to "My Account", then "My Bookings". under the cruise you are interested in, click on "Manage My Booking", then "Gifts and Indulgences". There you will find "Purchase On Board Credit".

Exactly as Rich said.

I’ve never seen OBC on sale.  It’s a matter of connivence or in my case - foreign exchange risk.

It works for me 😉

I just did this yesterday. You call ship services at HAL and you pay the gratuities with them. Real Simple. I had called in on the mainline and they transferred me but gave me the number so I could call again for another trip..

Ship Services number is 800-541-1576. You will probably be on hold for awhile but I always have things I can do while on hold. It saved my TA from having to do this and I received the email confirmation within 15 minutes and I had three different cruises.
