Breakaway Extended in Cozumel due to Dorian

I'm on the Breakaway, the captain just announced they are working on an extended stay in Cozumel due to the hurricane. No other details were provided as they haven't solidified them. Hope this helps some of the questions people had, but probably raises some more. Obviously they have to do what's safe for everyone on board and have no control over weather so go easy on them :)

When were you supposed to get back.. Supposed to go on NCL Sky from Miami on 8/31.. hope we leave as scheduled. Could care less at this point where we go.  Already arrived in Miami.

The Sun left Port Canaveral today for Cozumel (vs Bahamas).

The Captain of the Port raised the hurricane condition status to X-Ray this afternoon which warns all ships that Florida ports could be closed as soon as tomorrow afternoon.

Friend on the Breakaway said they announced arrival in Miami will now be Tuesday September 3 instead of Sunday September 1.

Yes, the captain announced we will be staying in Cozumel until 5am Sunday morning at which point we'll have to change berths at the port to a different one. I forgot what time he said we're leaving but he did say the time of our arrival at Miami on Tueaday will be based on port conditons at that time.

Hoping they reevaluate, latest models show the storm has slowed down and won't hit land until late Monday or sometime Tuesday.

Did you get your air through the cruise line?  If so let us know if NCL is helping you with air please.

MSC site says they were notified POM could be closed as early as tomorrow.  Key word is could, but they are getting in and out Friday.

Captain just updated that we will be changing ports at 4am tomorrow to the one in Cozumel used by Carnival and we'll be leaving port at 5pm Sept 1 but the arrival at Miami is still to be determined.

With the current track, its projected to hit Juno Beach,  (North Palm beach) as a Cat 4 at 2 am on Tuesday Morning 

 

The thing is its only suppose to travel north about 50 miles in 24 hours.     

 

So 2 am Wednesday it will not even be to Orlando yet.     

 

It maybe Wednesday Evening before the ship docks.

Wow! What if someone has an emergency or other urgent matter they need to be back home for? In these situations would someone be allowed to disembark at the current port during a cruise and fly back on their own dime?

Yes, NCL said people are free to disembark in Mexico and fly home.

You understand that it has NOTHING to do with the cruise line. It has to do with the US Coast Guard closure of the port which prevents any ships from entering.

As living in the hurricane alley, I can state that high surf usually arrives a couple of days or so before the hurricane itself, so that must the reason they are closing the POM early.

Norwegian Breakaway – August 25, 2019 Sailing: As scheduled, Norwegian Breakaway arrived to Cozumel, Mexico on Friday, August 30, 2019.  At this time, we are uncertain if the ship will be able to return to Miami, Florida on Sunday, September 1, as planned.  As such, the ship will extend its time and overnight in Cozumel until September 1, departing at 5 p.m. During this time, guests will have the option to conclude their cruise and arrange their return home or remain on board. Guests who choose to end their cruise in Cozumel will receive a 25% future cruise credit.

We welcome and encourage guests to remain on board and will provide an update on the anticipated return date to Miami by 8 p.m. or sooner on Friday, August 30.

Considering how long it took them to update their site with the first update, I would assume they will eventually post the new update eventually. The staff is outside doing their last port all on board party thing and they announced all crew must be on board by 5:30pm to depart.
