Bahamas Relief

Would like to see major lines send ships to the Bahamas. Use them as housing for the hardest hit victims. Time to dig deep folks. The depth of this tragedy is unbelievable. God help those poor people.

and NCL.  NCL did pay rebuild a school in St. Maarten.

The devastation from Dorian has been horrible.

Lets remember--the Bahamas are not a US state--they are part of the British Commonwealth.

The country remains part of the British Commonwealth of Nations and recognizes the British QUEEN as the head of state.

Where are the sentiments of Khan (London)? Is he calling for Londoners to donate to the cause to rebuild the Bahamas?,

The Royals? Beyond the Queen's statement of sympathies... will they give to the cause? Less private jetting for Harry and money sent to the Bahamas effort?  And Parliament -- what will they budget for the people of the Bahamas?

Where are the efforts of the British Navy etc to bring food/supplies?

How much is the UK spending to support the rebuilding of the Bahamas? Have not seen anything in the press.

I think some of your questions are quite valid as far as long term support and rebuilding.  

 

There is effort underway from the UK.  Our news isn't going to cover it well unless you can tune in to BBC News. The advance teams are already on the ground, arriving Nassau yesterday.  Here are some links:

Short term, however, the proximity to the US and the interests of US people and companies in the Bahamas far outweighs the same of the United Kingdom.

 

Disaster relief will come from the US, and others.  the UK Navy is on the way but as we saw in the 2017 hurricane in the Caribbean, the overseas resources of the UK and France are limited.  There is a Caribbean coalition that will have people there soon as well. 

 

But first on the scene was the US Coast Guard, because we can.  And we are good neighbors.  The American Red Cross will be on the ground too. And others.  It is good the impact at home will be far more limited so we can help, because in the past we have seen times when storms at home limited our ability to help others.

Many cruise companies have committed $1 million + to the relief efforts

And I read a post today of a man in Fl who bout 100+ generators and they are being shipped to the Bahamas

 

News reported that the US Coast Guard, the UN and Red Cross were on site for aid. No reports for the "Royal Navy" etc though on a post someone said that the "Royal Navy" keeps a ship in the Caribbean during the hurricane season. If that's true--never heard that before. Interesting.  If that's true, it wasn't reported in the news that they were on site.

 

I don't see anything inflammatory in asking where the Royals are, Khan (who instead of encouraging Londoners to give/support relief was bashing a US President) , or if Parliament was working to pass emergency aid....

 

With the Caribbean being a popular vacation destination for those in the EU and northern climes-- will the EU send funds/aid?

I don't mean just gov aid-- will people send private aid via Red Cross etc from the EU... ? I hope those that have vacationed there will reach out and send help.

Well I was happy to see NCL Breakway is loading supplies to take to Nassau tomorrow, but Empress of the Seas has done one better. She is anchored off Freeport now, with tugs transferring loads of supplies to land.

Learned on ABC News tonight that the Freeport Airport is usable but with no power, a US Navy ship is providing air traffic control. 

 

A lot of emergency supplies are arriving fast. Much better than Puerto Rico and other islands in the last few years.

Celebrity Equinox interrupted her cruise last week to deliver food, water, bedding, and more.  Volunteer passengers took part in the preparation.
