Arkansasgirl412 Posted September 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2019 According to the NCL website, my cruise arrives in Victoria at 7AM and leaves at 2PM. Does that mean we have to be back on the ship by 1PM? How early do we have to be back on board?
Rare mom says Posted September 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2019 The all aboard time at most docked ports is usually 30 min before sail away. Your daily news letter ( left in your cabin the night before) should list the arrival, departure, and all aboard times. However it is prudent to plan your day so that you can be on board a little earlier than this in case something goes awry with your transportation. You do NOT want to end up being be a pier runner! Heidi13 Posted September 8, 2019 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2019 In addition to the notice in the daily paper, you should see a departure board at the gangway, advising departure and all-aboard times. Passengers are normally 1/2 hr and crew can be 1 hr.
cb at sea Posted September 8, 2019 #5 Share Posted September 8, 2019 30 mins prior to sail away from PORTS OF CALL is standard....if there is something different, you'll be informed on the ship.
geoffrywillhardt Posted September 10, 2019 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2019 They also have instructive talks on most cruise lines I believe where procedures are spelled out more clearly. On Carnival the talk is called "Fun Ashore". Check your daily newsletter or ask a crew member once on board and they can direct you as to the place and time. getting older slowly Posted September 10, 2019 #7 Share Posted September 10, 2019 It is our worst nightmare....... so generally if wondering round by ourselves,,, an hour or two before back on board time But we are early for most things...... it I up to you.... the further you are from the ship the more time you should allow. Arkansasgirl412 Posted September 11, 2019 Author #8 Share Posted September 11, 2019 Thanks everyone! I originally asked the question because I was considering doing a private tour that runs from 11AM to 1PM. The cruise ship leaves at 2PM. I think that'll be cutting it too close though so we're going to look for something else.
4x4bob Posted September 11, 2019 #9 Share Posted September 11, 2019 Here is another suggestion. I wear a watch set to ship time. Your phone might, may, could up date to local time which is different from ship time. To me it is not worth the risk. bob
SRF Posted September 16, 2019 #10 Share Posted September 16, 2019 Also, you cannot base it on the time in the booking. The sail away time may change due to various factors. ALWAYS check before you get off the ship. For tours, the tour operator should be familiar with cruisers, and will do everything possible it get you back with plenty of time. If not, they would be outed online and never get another cruise passenger as a client.
DarrenM Posted September 16, 2019 #11 Share Posted September 16, 2019 As long as you can run and jump, you can leave it until the ship starts sailing. Nothing wrong with living a little dangerously.

Anecdotally, most of the late tours are with 'ship approved' providers. They know they have a safety net provided by the cruise line.

You should be in the line to board the ship no later than then. If you are in line they are not going to leave you.
