Catalina Island

Was there years ago on a Princess repositioning cruise Vancouver-Victoria-Astoria-San Francisco-Catalina-Long Beach.

Catalina is a TENDER port.

A quaint little seaside village - get off the ship and at least do a walk-about or hire out a golf cart.

You have plenty of time to walk to other end of the bay and see the Casino.

There are other shore excursions visiting the interior of the island - a lot of history

Can't get there on a cruise ship - there is frequent ferry service from Long Beach - cruise ship not required.

A melody I can't get out of my head - 26 miles across the sea Santa Catalina is awaiting for me !

Is Catalina Island worth it? I'll be a Long Beach, so not far away.

thank you.

From Long beach it's about an hour on the Catalina Express and costs about $75.  There's not a lot on Catalina. Avalon is a tiny town with a few restaurants, bars and gift shops. There are tours of the island but again there's really not much to see. Of course there are glass bottom boat tours etc.  If you have nothing to do and you are stuck in Long Beach it's not a bad way to spend the day. But don't expect a fancy resort style experience, think quaint little seaside village.

I enjoy Catalina as it is a nice relaxing time. It is worth it when we cruiseed there as we take the trolley around and I always stop in the main area before boarding and get an ice cream. I am not sure I would take the ferry over unless I was planning on staying on the island. If you are planning land time prior to boarding NCL the next day, it will take up part of your day there taking the ferry over and back.
