molsonschooner Posted November 6, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2019 We are cruising on Oasis on May 10, 2020. We will be driving from Canada and arriving sometime Saturday night. We are looking for a reasonably priced hotel. As of right now we are undecided as to whether we would get a hotel that offers parking and a shuttle or drive ourselves and park at the terminal. Can anyone offer their experiences with local hotels and provide a rough idea on costs.
meadowlander Posted November 6, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2019 The further away from NYC the lower the cost of the hotels. You can look at hotels in Parsippany, Wayne and Morristown areas of NJ. All are about 30 miles from the cruise port. Do not park at off site lots near the cruise port. Park at the port or use a sleep/park package. Trinity reservations is recommended often for sleep/park packages.
Ashland Posted November 7, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 7, 2019 Consider Elizabeth New Jersey.....Courtyard by Marriott...Residence Inn or Embassy Suites all on International Blvd. These are all great options when cruising out of Cape Liberty and very popular choices ... great location with walking distance to some restaurants and the mall. Check out their cruise/parking packages...shuttle or Uber to the port. Avoid the Country Inn & Suites...JMHO.

Ashland, would you consider these to be good choices for a pre-cruise stay of 3 or 4 nights? How easy would it be to get to the main tourist sites (Statue of Liberty, 911 memorial etc.) from here using public transport? Thanks.
138east Posted December 12, 2019 #8 Share Posted December 12, 2019 FionaMG - give us more details about your exact dates, hotel budget, and which airport you would fly into. On a high level you need to look at the Doubletree Penn Station or the Robert Treat in Newark for good public transit from Newark Penn Station via PATH and train or look at the Jersey City hotels in the Newport area near the Newport, Grove St, or Exchange Place PATH stations. https://www.njtransit.com/pdf/rail/Rail_System_Map.pdf https://www.panynj.gov/path/maps.html

Thanks @138east It's all very fuzzy at the moment because it's still a long way off, so I will definitely be posting a lot more questions and fuller details once things start to take shape. We're looking at Mid-April or mid-May 2021, 3 to 4 nights pre-cruise stay. Probably flying into EWR but JFK is not out of the question, depending on prices and flight times. I'm totally unfamiliar with the area so really just trying to get a feel for areas that might work for us. Essentially hoping to find something cheap-ish and cheerful in an area that's safe for obvious out-of-towners to be out and about in and with fairly easy-to-use public transport to the main tourist sites. Budget is still to be defined but we want to keep it a low as possible without compromising on safety. Does under $200 a night sound feasible? $250? I don't think we'd get anything for that price close to the main sites, would we?

I don't think we'd get anything for that price close to the main sites, would we? Definitely EWR if possible. You will pay about $125+ each way for transportation from and to JFK. Can’t tell about the hotel prices until you’re about a year out and have exact dates. Newark is highly urban and you wouldn’t want to wander around the streets after dark on foot. The Doubletree has a skywalk into Newark Penn Station and the Robert Treat offers shuttle service to the station. PATH will take you directly to the World Trade Center in lower Manhattan for the 911 Memorial and SOL. NJ Transit train will take you to New York Penn Station in midtown for Times Square, Empire State, and other midtown attractions. Jersey City hotels and Manhattan hotels might not fall within your $200-250 budget, but you never can tell. It all depends on the date. From Jersey City you can take PATH to either midtown or downtown. It is also possible to take accessible light rail to 34th St.Bayonne and Uber into the port if you can manage your luggage.
