Visa for NZ cruise : single entry or multiple entry

 Share

Recommended Posts

Will be flying into Auckland to take the 8-day cruise from Auckland - Bay of Islands - Dunedin - Wellington - Napier - Auckland

and after the cruise, stay 1 night in Auckland before flying off.

Do I need a single entry visitor visa or a multiple entry visitor visa?
I am not from a visa waiver country.

Visa requirements vary dependant upon what country passport you are travelling... You may need a visitor visa, or if you are from a visa waver country, only need an ETA (electronic permit).. ETA is quickly and cheaply obtained on-line for visa waver applicants  Best to check requirements and do everything through the official NZ Government website...  (eg .. Australian Passport holders do not need apply for anything)

As above - if you are a Malaysian citizen you  are a "visa waiver country" and just need to apply for the (new) ETA - it runs for a couple of years I think so whether or not you are multiple entry doesn't matter.

Hi lissie, I m a Msian and already have a multiple entry NZeTA valid for 2 years. My wife holds a Philippines passport. Just got visitor visa valid for 3 months, single entry which is our concern. Managed to call INZ at +6499144100. Feedback from officer is that single entry visa is fine. We will fly in and out of Auckland. During this 10 day duration, we will take the 1 week cruise, ex Auckland - N Island - S Island - Auckland which is considered domestic travel. Thanks for the feedback.

Following along....we will be headed to New Zealand on a cruise out of Sydney and am wondering if I need a visa...

Review the info at these links https://nzeta.immigration.govt.nz/ and https://www.eta.homeaffairs.gov.au/ETAS3/etas

Also recommend that you check with your travel agent or directly with the cruise line.

I would just take the advice on the links you provided, as travel agents and the cruise lines are notorious for not knowing the latest on visas.

Hi possum52,
ETA is only applicable to passport holders of 9 countries i.e. Brunei, Canada, HK, Japan, Msia, Singapore, S Korea & USA.  Others need to apply visa.
My Q was whether a Philippines passport holder requires single entry or multiple entry was already clarified with INZ that NZ domestic cruise is domestic travel. Hence single entry visa will suffice.

My post was in response to the post above from Frenchberet who had responded to a post from Wilda (post 2). I think you are incorrect in saying that only passport holders of 9 countries  are eligible for a NTeTA. There is a long list of eligible countries on the official government website.

I recommend people play it safe and check with the official government sites for their particular circumstances, they should not trust what someone says on these forums as fact, it can be correct most times but then we do not always know of an individuals circumstance.
