Don’t know about Royal’s tour but we did that through Trip Advisor and liked it a lot. We had our own personal tour guide in a private car as opposed to a large bus. We got to the sloth place before the big busses got there and beat the crowd. The Trip Advisor tour also cost less.

Thanks so much. Since we are new to all if this, just worried about getting back in time. Do they take into consideration when you have to be back? Thanks again

Yes they do.

Non-ship providers are better than cruise ship providers.  They have a lot more at stake than those who contract with the ship.

Ship providers are a lot more casual about getting you back on time (tho they do not ignore it) because they are 'protected' from the wrath of passengers by the fact the ship will wait for them.

Having said that, it is not unknown for a ship to sail without waiting....especially if the next leg of the trip is a long distance requiring high speed and special timing.  It's up to the captain, who carefully calls the head office for permission.

Happily for the OP....Roatan does not fall within this description.

DW and I along with another couple took a tour with Victor Bodden.  We really enjoyed plus it was less expensive than the ship's tour.  We were able to customize it and it was more personable.  No issues of getting back to the ship in time.  Tour is highly rated on TripAdvisor.   Google Bodden tours then book directly with them on their website.

Agree with above. Last year used Victor Bodden private tour. Driver for entire day, I think it was about $80 and we customized our day looking at their website and tours offered. First to the animal park before crowds, felt like a private tour there. Additional admissions for certain activities and then spent some time at beach. No worries getting back to ship on time, would use again.

Why get on a bus with 40 others and force an itinerary that you may not desire?

We just got back from a stop in Roatan.  We did private excursion with Daniel Johnson’s Monkey/Sloth & snorkel- incl transportation from port, $45pp (3hr)  https://monkeyandslothhangout.com/home/

Not sure where the ship tour goes, but this is a small place that has a few sloths, monkeys, and parrots.  Our taxi driver waited for us the whole time since the place is a bit out of town. Very organized with wonderful people!

Not sure what the regular routine is because it was absolutely POURING rain when we got there.  While there were mostly covered areas, the sloth we held was quite wet so we didn't spend a huge amount of time with it.  Monkeys were very friendly and not shy... same with parrots.

Waited for a few minutes to get a group together for the snorkeling boat.  It was really windy the day we went and the current was quite strong, so only one of us spent much time in the water.  He said it was excellent snorkeling with sights of lots of lobsters, eel, etc.

If you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask.
