yvr49 Posted January 26, 2020 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2020 What's the most efficient way to get from the cruise port to the city centre and what are the costs? Taxi, cruise ship shuttle, bus? Thanks.
CruiserBruce Posted January 26, 2020 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2020 Nothing particularly inefficient about ship shuttles, and on some cruise lines, they are free. Taxi would be most direct...but they are never free.
MAVIP Posted January 26, 2020 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2020 (edited) Depends upon the dock and distance to public transport (The Point at Eastwall Road) We paid in August and September 2019 € 15,= for a trip in a cab to and the same from the center. € 7 to the nearest tram stop. And for a single trip on LUAS tram € 2.80; return € 4,80. In August we bought a day ticket for about € 7 for 2 zones. The shuttle the port supplies to the gate is a bit ridiculous: they drop you around the corner and it depends upon the dock whether it is an easy walkable distance to public transport or less so. The shuttle the cruisecompany supplies drops you at Merrion Square. Edited January 26, 2020 by MAVIP The Point )
yvr49 Posted January 26, 2020 Author #4 Share Posted January 26, 2020 We will be on Island Princess in September. Does Princess supply a shuttle and if so what's the cost? Thanks for the assistance.
dadofjessie Posted February 19, 2020 #5 Share Posted February 19, 2020 We will be on a Celebrity cruise in May. We've arranged for a car and a driver to take us from the ship to our hotel. We've been told that sometimes taxi lines are big and the lines are long.

We've done this a few times-- you can just get an Uber to take you from the port to your hotel. The app has what we in the US consider to be an UberBlack option (usually a Mercedes E or S Class in Dublin in my experience) or you can use it to hire a taxi and you are billed the taxis meter through the app. Either way super convenient and you can avoid the lines that can pop up at the cruise port. What's the app, Uber? Where do you tell the driver to pick you up. Right at the cruise port? Edited February 19, 2020 by bubbachief

The same Uber app you use at home-- works perfectly well in Dublin. They can pick you up right outside of the port-- theres a bit of a fenced in area and you'll see where it is right outside. Right at the cruise port.

Just make sure you have a credit card tied to the app that doesn't have foreign transaction fees-- will save you some $$. It will be billed in euros. I asked our hotel, and they told me there are taxis. We had the same issue in Quebec City where the taxi line was over an hour long. I'd rather book a car in advance.
