Cdncruisefam Posted February 14, 2020 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2020 Hi We’re thinking of cruising to Alaska this summer and have been told that smaller ships that cruise the Inside Passage from Vancouver (Serenade) have the best itineraries to see wildlife/ Alaska vs the ones that cruise from Seattle (Ovation). But we’re travelling with our 12 and 8 year olds so I was hoping others could share their thoughts about the Serenade in Alaska for young kids? TIA
Karma5 Posted February 14, 2020 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2020 Its a nice ship, and if you do most activities in Alaska your children should be ok. However it is not a ship really designed for all indoor activities for children.
dodgestang Posted February 14, 2020 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2020 We're taking Serenade August 1, 2020 with a 13 and 9 yr old.....they enjoy the smaller ships as much as the larger ships and are super excited to go to Alaska. My youngest enjoys Karaoke and my oldest swims and/or just hangs out. They are adventurous eaters so dinner is always fun and they both love going to the shows in the evening. ONECRUISER Posted February 14, 2020 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2020 (edited) Nice ship, good kids program. Great Food and Choices in WindJammer for Dinner's and Lunches. Improved over what was few yrs ago. Been on Serenade over 200nites, inc with my kids. Edited February 14, 2020 by ONECRUISER

If you want a kid's perspective, here's a review written on Serenade by my son, who was 9 turning 10 at that time: https://www.cruisecritic.com/memberreviews/memberreview.cfm?EntryID=611557 Of course we went to the Caribbean instead of Alaska. I loved your son's review of the Serenade! Sounds like lots of fun for kids... ours will have just turned 13, so hoping she loves it as much as he did. Thanks for sharing. Ashland Posted August 14, 2021 #8 Share Posted August 14, 2021 Our extended family has Alaska Serenade booked for Sept 2022 with a 5 & 8 year old (experienced cruisers) both looking forward to what they've taken to calling our cold cruise and our April Harmony 2022 Caribbean cruise as our hot one. Large ships or small they always enjoy themselves.
