Rare Manbo Posted March 14, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 14, 2020 We sailed the Epic from Barcelona, to Italy and France and loved it! Only one sea day. Would sail that again!

I wish it was so, but I really don't think so. Google this. A coronavirus cautionary tale from Italy: Don’t do what we did Many of us were too selfish to follow suggestions to change our behavior. Now we’re in lockdown and people are needlessly dying.

May I ask why you think that? Considering the scope of this situation that's really not that far away. I sure hope you are right though, as I'm sure everyone is. Rare All-ready2cruise Posted March 15, 2020 #8 Share Posted March 15, 2020 OP, just b/c this virus has only taken a few months to cause havoc does not mean that this havoc can be reversed in a few months. Scientists/researchers spend hours and hours trying to find a cure/vaccine to make it possible for those affected by a virus like this to survive and live a normal life. This virus has killed thousands, it may take thousands of hours, maybe millions or more to figure out what the resolution will be to begin normalcy. I guess if the younger generation were ok with losing many of their seniors, then they would stop worrying and let t he virus take it's course but that's not the impression that I get, most want their parents/grandparents and those with comprimised immune systems, to stay around for as long possible. This will not end quickly nor easily, nor without sacrifice. Please be patient as this too will pass, given time.

Let's hope it doesn't take a million hours, that's like over a century. 🙂

Hopefully, it will only take 12 or so months instead of the normal 18 - 24 months to find the key. They seem to have a good start on creating a vaccine. Proving it and then manufacturing it is a different story. I wish them luck.

Government and health organizations have advised to avoid unnecessary travel until further notice. Staycation for me, but you do you.

elwood_98034 Posted March 15, 2020 #13 Share Posted March 15, 2020 A week ago there were 150 different strains of this virus. It seems to mutate every 6 to 12 days. Finding a vaccine is going to be challenging. Just like the flu vax seems to be pretty useless half the time. This thing is going to be with us for a long time. The giveaway for me was when Bill gates announced that he was stepping away from the Microsoft Board to direct his time and energy against this. Bill is smart. When Bill talks, I shut up and listen. If Bill is worried? I'm am sheeting my pants.
