I'm flying into Venice Oct 1, but have to get to Ravenna to board the ship. As far as I can determine, a COVID test is still required prior to boarding because we're going to Greece, so I plan to do that on my laptop with a kit and the electronic monitoring. Of course, Celebrity's electronic systems are down for the last two days, so I haven't been able to print out my boarding pass and luggage tags... We had a bit of a cool front come through last night, so the temps are lovely for the weekend, at least. Hi Cynthia, good morning, wishing you a wonderful cruise. What ship are you sailing? To start with, everything was reversed so we went to Portland today instead of last port day, we are over nighting and leaving tomorrow at 130.Halifax andSt John have been completely dropped from itinerary but so far, seas have been calm. All is good. Sherri🙂 Sherri, so glad your cruise is going well in spite of the changes. Interesting how the cruise lines figure out how to avoid the storms. Cynthia-the count down has begun We like the M class ships too. They are a good size compared to many of the newer ships. Melody, you have a bit of a wait for the results. Sometimes it seems as if doctors forget that waiting is stressful. Got up before dawn today, grabbed coffee in a commuter cup and went to watched the mini balloon festival. Stopped for a walk before returning home. Temps are again will be in the 90’s:( Wishing all a good week end. Sharon
sjb317 Posted September 24, 2022 #6230 Share Posted September 24, 2022 Continue to enjoy the cruise! We just left Portland and are heading up to Quebec (maybe!). Next two days are sea days so I think we will get there Tuesday. We are on Summit, is that M class? If so, I like it a lot! Cynthia, your cruise in the Mediterranean should be amazing! Sharon, the mini balloon festival sounds like fun, except for the getting up at dawn part! So, I tried to do my version of minimal packing and I have discovered that I did not bring enough clothes!😂 Should have brought a few more tops, another dress, and maybe another swimsuit. We have spent a lot of time in the solarium pool! Sherri🙂

Even though it's not that much smaller than the S class ships, I prefer them slightly. Of course, I do miss Murano.... Glad to hear you are dodging the storm and even enjoying some (covered) pool time!

Rare Lois R Posted September 25, 2022 #6234 Share Posted September 25, 2022 Hi girls, well, looks like things may be changing later in the week (weather wise) around here. Ian is coming for Florida but of course at this point they really don't know exactly where he is going to hit. I have plenty of water (already decided to buy it)....have 5 1 gallon jugs.......I always keep canned goods in the house that don't need refrigeration but decided to get some extra tuna/salmon/chicken. Have some snacks too.....nuts and stuff. It really depends on the next few days before we know if my area is going to be hit. They call it the "CONE OF UNCERTAINTY" how far and wide the storm will be going. Today is beautiful.......sunny and warm. If you didn't know it is the middle of hurricane season, well you would never know LOL....... Cynthia, I know your folks live here.........hope they are safe and secure!

slidergirl Posted September 25, 2022 Author #6236 Share Posted September 25, 2022 i'm a little behind. no reason, just lazy, i think. MrT (sorry, I had to do that!) congrats on the upcoming addition to the family pod. you get another dose of those wonderful baby smells!! melody - good thoughts for your scan. i swear, we've all had some rough times the past 2 years. it's time for all of us to have good health and happiness. Cynthia - while you're still here - have a great time on your cruises. Are you going to go straight to Ravenna to do some mosaic exploration there or hanging in Venice? I expect a travelogue and photos - especially some food porn!!! lois & sherrie and everyone else in FL: hoping that you end up outside of the "cone of uncertainty". Besides the water and food, be sure you have batteries and lighting and a battery-operated radio. That's what my friend in Cocoa Beach has in the cottage. if you have USB-chargeable things, charge them up the day before so you have a charge a long as possible. AND, have a wrench handy so you can turn off the gas at the house if you do get damage (learned that one from earthquake preparedness). hurricane and earthquake preparedness seem to have a lot of the same basics. i ended not going up to my downtown yesterday. i just wasn't in the mood to get lunch there, so no stop in the Athleta store. BUT, i am taking a "how to use your iPhone to take good pictures" class down in the Valley at the Apple Store Tuesday afternoon. There is an Athleta store in the mall, so I can stop off there. I wish I had the time to take the 3 classes before I went to Europe, but better late than never. I have a friend solo hiking the Camino de Campostela. She's done a month's worth so far. Her photos are amazing and she said she's just doing the 'point and pray' method like i did. She has a better eye for composition than i do. maybe i'll learn a little. Apple + subscribers; I watched Gutsy the other day. it's the Hillary and Chelsea show where they are interviewing/highlighting women. It is actually very good. And, I'm bummed that I have no Ted Lasso to watch! I got hooked on it. And, doubly bummed to find out the next season is the last... OOTD: starting out with joggers & a sweatshirt (57 in the house this morning), switching to shorts and a Tshirt if I go out in the afternoon (up to upper 70s/low 80s).
Rare Lois R Posted September 25, 2022 #6237 Share Posted September 25, 2022 Hi Kat, thanks for the storm advice but I have no gas to turn off. My appliances are electric. I always have batteries but will recheck how many at the present time. sjb317 Posted September 25, 2022 #6238 Share Posted September 25, 2022 So, we have had a beautiful sea day today, sunny and warm. Almost like being in the Caribbean!😂. I can tell the waves are picking up, definitely a little rougher. We battened down the hatches before we left, happy not to be in FL right now, although I don’t think it will hit our area very hard. Lois, stay safe as it looks like it could swing up through Jacksonville. Sherri🙂
purduemom1 Posted September 25, 2022 #6239 Share Posted September 25, 2022 I’ve been thinking about those on here, incl relatives, who are awaiting more info on Ian’s path. Reading about prep suggestions and I will add one more. Since we are subject to power outages during really high temps, I bought 2 rechargeable fans. They are probably 8 or so inches across. I can also charge them with the Mophie portable charger. Hoping that Ian passes by without incident. Sherri, fingers crossed that you will be able to visit Quebec. It’s a favorite of mine. Kat, I need to look into those Apple classes. I’ve taken others at the store and have always learned a lot. Yes, lots of medical issues over the past 2+ years. We have all been really good support for one another but yes, a reprieve would be good.
awhfy Posted September 25, 2022 #6240 Share Posted September 25, 2022 Something to add to your weather preparedness box, a non electric can opener!! We keep a box with canned chicken, tuna & deviled ham. We also have a hand crank radio (we’ve had it over 45 years & it still works great, no batteries required), several space blankets. Everywhere we’ve ever lived has been a ‘dangerous weather’ area. Melody

I keep them charged up and then they can be re-charged when the sun comes back. Works with my usb-powered collapsible lanterns that i have for ICE in my car and for camping. someone once told me that if my washing machine is a top-loader to fill it with ice and you can use it as a cooler.

Rare Lois R Posted September 27, 2022 #6244 Share Posted September 27, 2022 Hi girls, got my new laptop all set up😀. The tech was really nice. It took him about 90 minutes to get everything transferred and he helped me with multiple questions. Had to make sure my printer/scanner was all set the same way as on my old laptop. (It is) I should be good with this one........but he gave me his direct line in case I need help with anything. Cynthia, I replied to you on the other board.......(about carrying something with you while on board). Hopefully I will be able to use this for a couple of hours at least without an issue.

Or maybe a box of wine... 😸 OOTD: joggers and a sweatshirt again (59 in the house when I got up), moving to leggings and a Tshirt when it warms up. Now it's evening (I forgot to send the top part)... If you have an iPhone, find an Apple Store and take their "Photography on iPhone" class. I was surprised at how much I learned. Some cool features that aren't readily apparent, basic portrait, some settings to make things easier, and the hidden macro feature. I'm going to take all the ones available now. The "Framing Architecture" class is the next one i'm going to take since I love taking photos of pieces of buildings, churches, statues. then, i'll work on the editing class. there was an Athleta shop in the mall. Went in to actually see those Brooklyn pants. While I didn't like them, I could see them working in hot weather when traveling. I was also interested in looking at the Delancey Cargo pant. The Rustic Beige color is like a light brown and would work for wearing for work. The Foliage Orange is a really fun color but i'd be afraid to wear for work. Very comfortable pants. new OOTD: jeans and my lightweight white henley shirt, pink high tops. it was 92 down in the Valley this afternoon.

purduemom1 Posted September 28, 2022 #6249 Share Posted September 28, 2022 Lois, enjoy your new laptop! Nice that it’s all set up. I l hate it when questions pop up during a set up, upgrade etc. since I’m not always sure how to answer. Tonight, on the national news, Jacksonville was mentioned is in Ian’s path on Thursday. I know you stocked up and I hope your condo is not subject to flooding. The predicted storm surges sound really really bad. . Stay safe! Kat, just checked and our Apple store has the photography classes. I need to look into them. Cynthia, hoping that your flight won’t be impacted by Ian. Are you possibly in the storm’s path too? Would be great if all the unwanted water from this storm could be diverted to places that badly need it!
