Americans, how long until you received your refund?

I called Visa to dispute my charges. After a short chat with the 1st rep I spoke with, he transferred me to the "Disputes" department. I was on hold for 3 hours and 10 min. but I wasn't going to give up. I finally got a nice young lady who listened to my story. I told her I had a letter from Feb. 27 saying that MSC would credit back 100% of the "cruise only" portion of the trip. She asked me to email the letter to her. After being on hold a while longer she came back with "They definitely owe you money".

I was verbally told over the phone about 3.5 weeks ago by an MSC Canada employee that MSC had already paid Sunwing the money. Sunwing just isn't paying it out to the customers. The young lady at Visa asked how much would I like to claim. As I bought a package deal I had no idea how much Sunwing had paid for the room. I looked on line for the same trip next Feb. and they wanted $1,062.51 CDN ($791.77 US) per person for a balcony room. I asked if that would be reasonable to claim and she said "Sure". Today a credit of $2,125.51 showed up on my Visa card. Sunwing has 30 days to dispute this.

I don't mind if Sunwing disputes this. They might knock the price down but at least they will now "need" to act. In my opinion, I don't think Sunwing ever had any intention of paying the money back anytime soon. They were probably just using our money to pay off other creditors to avoid bankruptcy. They couldn't give a flying" you know what" about the customers. I will probably never do business with them again.

Good luck all

Caledonia boy

On day 79 and nothing from MSC. Not sure we’d go back to MSC cause of this. I’m reasonable but feel we are being taken advantage of by MSC. No reason for this length for a refund.

The thing is a recent report said they were working on March and early April.  So they've been working on these refunds for many of us here with those dates yet not much happening except a couple folks last week.

What were they doing those first 60 days??

Called again today - March 29 cruise was cancelled - March 14 completed “form” for FCC - received FCC April 24 - today June 4 no taxes/fees yet - agent said she could see the amount which meant it had gone to accounting - I am taking this as a “good” step forward.

Called MSC yesterday. Got right through to nice Lady.  Was told since we booked via TA they can't tell me.

Shot agent email got reply back to contact generic email address.  Unfortunately our wonderful agent probably out of work.

However, three of four items I'm waiting for were booked directly on MSC site.

Hope everyone is well.  Just a quick update.  Finally I received the refund on 29th May.  I lodged a refund through the MSC website on 30th Mar for 2nd May Mediterranean cruise that was cancelled.  Email respond said 60 days for refund to be processed.  Good luck for those who are still waiting, should be happening soon.

I am still waiting for my refund, I cancelled my sailing on March 13, I was supposed to sail on April 25th. MSC is moving pretty slow with their refund system. When i requested my refund I was told 60 days from the day of cancellation, well I am pass my 60 days (business days) hopefully I will get my money this week coming. My mom was sailing on Carnival July 19th, she cancelled her sailing in May and as of today she received her full refund.

Thanks for posting this.  In our email confirmation, it stated that we would receive our refund 60 days after cancellation.  However, on the website it stated that we would receive it 60 days after cancellation OR sail date, whichever is later.  Hope your refund comes by June 25th.

If it weren’t for the delay in refunds, we would have booked 2 more cruises with MSC.  Now, I am waiting to see what happens with the refund. I am not willing to give them more of my money before they return my funds from our 3 cancelled cruises.  😔

It varies greatly depending on where you live, what company you purchased your cruise with and when you applied for a refund. Usually it takes 40 to 90 days but there were particular cases when some people had to wait up to 120 day.. or even still waiting. Hope everyone will get their money back

I was also hoping to book another cruise with MSC but they are taking so long to return my refund. Will be booking with Carnival for sailing next year.

woohoo, got my refund - both final payment and deposit. Applied for it on March 17, cruise would have been on April 5, but it got cancelled. Paper statement shows it as credited on May 19, but I know I have checked my account after that and it wasn't showing yet.

There are two dates associated with credit card transactions, and it is not possible to alter them (e.g. backdate them etc): the transaction date and post date.  On my credit card statement I can see both, not sure what your's shows but I would guess the 19th May is the transaction date (i.e. the refund was executed by MSC) and the post date (i.e. when the refund was noted as settled between issuing and merchant banks) was later.

Called yesterday since it had been 84 calendar days (60 business days) since submitting refund request on 16 March. I got through fairly fast, but the lady had to transfer me to the casino department for one cruise.  Once transferred they told me the refund was processed on 25 May (2 weeks ago).  I told her that I had not seen it and we verified the correct Visa card was used.  She said she would send something to the accounting department but who knows.  Back to the first lady, the other refund (requested on 31 March) was being processed and she said it should be out this week.

Again, I'll believe them once I see the refund back on my credit card.  Until then no new bookings on MSC

There were a couple posters reporting a credit around that time only to see it disappear.  This may be another case of that.

I contacted MSC after May 19th, because the refund wasn't there yet at 60+ days. I kept checking my credit card account and it wasn't there a couple more times. That's all I can say.

I cancelled my June cruise for a full refund on March 2nd.  Been given so many different stories by MSC (via my TA) that I can't keep track.  Still no refund.  Paid in full last year.  100 days and counting.

I feel your pain.  We're still waiting since 16 March for one cruise and 31 March for another.  Once you call up, I feel they must have a script to pick which excuse from now.  Was told we would have one by the end of the week and nothing.  The other one told asked me was the Visa number correct.  I would feel better if they would just tell everyone the truth then we could at least see the end.  In the interim, we are all just checking our credit card accounts daily to see if their credits show up.  Shame on you MSC!!!

April 11th sailing cancelled by MSC

requested refund March 21st, so we are at 83 days now!

its a circus, actually that’s insulting to the hard working circus folk.

its a WWCF.

MSC jargon:

We have to train staff, it will be next week, call back in 10 days, you didn’t ask for a FCC, no you didn’t ask for a refund, call back next week, oh it should be next week, wait until May 20th, call, oh we don’t see you requested refund, call back next week. Oh we are still training staff, Genoa is controlling all bookings, call back in 10 days, oh we see the rep didn’t process your request correctly, on hold, supervisor your refund is being processed, 10 days later, call back next week , Jun 1st your refund has been processed, will be credited back in 10-15 business days.... cricket cricket cricket...

I am sure the above sounds VERY familiar to a lot of you

The only excuse we have not had yet, is the dog ate my homework.

6 more days and credit card dispute will be filed..

I cancelled 3 refundable deposits on 3/13/20 for 3 cabins sailing on 6/13/20. 3 weeks ago I received a credit for 2 of them. Been calling them every week since then for the missing refund. Different excuse all the time, they even told me it depends on the credit card company, that their processing times are different.

The deposits were paid with the same card. How can they refund 2 and 1 for them still been processing.

Yesterday I called again and the nice lady did an escalation, will keep you posted.

Unfortunately I think they'll refer you to post 247.

Has anyone gotten a refund for a European cruise?

My mom booked with MSC USA for a 3/20 cruise. Called for a refund 3/12, but we haven't gotten anything yet.

Thanks in advance!

Still nothing. Will probably call again next week.

I'm also waiting on a Globus refund from 3/25 so ::fingers crossed::

Just checked my Visa account and refund for all three cabins on Armonia July 19th posted with date of May 29.  I had looked since then, with nothing showing, but maybe it was one of the "disappearing/reappearing" credits.  Anyhow, I'm happy.

I cancelled mid to late March.
