Sending private messages

You can't, private messaging isn't available except for admin.

I'm wondering why that is.  It seems to me that it would be a valuable feature (for those that would wish to opt in only, and provided that you could block senders).

The idea is that all conversation on the platform is public. Private messaging goes against that.

The only way to get an answer is to email the mods.  Instructions to do so are somewhere here on CC.

The answer is likely to be "because we say so".  I have grown to like it.  Direct messaging for most is a harmless and helpful way to communicate.  Sadly for a few it is a way to spew vile words, lies, fake news and other inappropriate messaging.

There is enough of that already on CC when an informative thread goes off the rails.

It seems harmless to me, provided that it is optional and that one can block users that one does not care to communicate with.  The advantage, to me, is that sometimes I wish to communicate with a poster with questions or information that would not be of interest to the group.
