I really don't see how they will be able to resume June anything at this point.

firefly333 Posted April 14, 2020 #8 Share Posted April 14, 2020 It's still april, maybe another april fools joke Cdc wants cruises to stop for 100 days. Carnival does seem to keep posting optimistically
Rare lazydayz Posted April 14, 2020 #9 Share Posted April 14, 2020 I voted for September, because I think the cruise lines are going to do everything possible to get back up and running. With a little luck, the virus may slow way down over the summer and everyone can sail in the early fall. But it may be 1/1/21. Perhaps Carnival gave us that clue when it announced it had secured funding to survive that long.
adidas5676 Posted April 14, 2020 Author #10 Share Posted April 14, 2020 In order to prevent spread of Covid while waiting to board ships at port they would also need to implement rapid testing when people drive into the parking garage BEFORE leaving their vehicles. I hope we can get to a point where a rapid test can give a result within seconds (like a color changing swab, for instance) when people drive up, and then they will either be permitted to park and go through the next testing area (such as temp checks) before boarding.
Rare lazydayz Posted April 15, 2020 #11 Share Posted April 15, 2020 Read an interesting article yesterday about when it would be safe to travel again. The author's opinion is that three things have to happen first: 1. State Department lifts the travel advisory 2. CDC lifts public health emergency order 3. WHO lifts its emergency order Can I change my vote? LOL

Except that test is only good for when you take it. You can have a negative test and still be in the incubation period meaning that you won't show positive for anywhere between 24 hours and 14 days. And how does that work if you're exposed in a port? Do they test everyone going off and coming back on? Test every morning before you are allowed to leave your cabin, and again each time you return? Do they test as you debark at the end of the cruise as well? We don't have enough tests to test the people that need to be tested now - the idea that there will be tests enough available to test 2500 people multiple times over the course of a cruise in the near future is very optimistic. I'd love to get to that point too, but my feeling is that until there is a proven vaccine, the cruise industry is going to be limping along at best. And once there is a vaccine, it's likely that you may have to show proof of having it before you're allowed to board.
