kuddles14 Posted April 24, 2020 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2020 We are suppose to be sailing to Alaska this August. If it is cancelled we are looking at the following itineraries: Itinerary 1 - Sitka, Skagway and Juneau Itinerary 2 - Ketchikan, Skagway and Juneau. Which would you prefer ? bonsai3s Posted April 24, 2020 #3 Share Posted April 24, 2020 Both are nice. We'd pick Ketchikan only because there's so much to see within walking distance from the cruise terminal.

birdylady Posted April 24, 2020 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2020 I've never been to Sitka, but did go to Ketchikan. I would SO love to go back. Such an intersting town with great history, so much to see and do and everything is so close. Erika
zonacruiser25 Posted April 24, 2020 #6 Share Posted April 24, 2020 Been to Ketchikan many times and always enjoy the stop. I would choose Sitka for the change. We usually choose itineraries with ports we have not visited when we have the chance.
Rare island lady Posted April 24, 2020 #7 Share Posted April 24, 2020 Another vote for Ketchikan for the same reason. There is so much more to do within walking distance, but I also love Sitka....or for that matter ANY town, city, or port in Alaska! 🤗
klfrodo Posted April 24, 2020 #8 Share Posted April 24, 2020 (edited) For the past 20 years, until I retired, I used to fly to all these villages to work. Sometimes fly in/fly out same day. Sometimes, I might have stayed a week or so. I'd recommend itinerary 2. Ketchikan is a beautiful community, small, but has a big time feel. Lots of history. Lots of fishing, timber, and native American art. Juneau. The big city in Southeast AK. The capital of AK. Mendenhall Glacier. Gold mines. History. Red Dog Saloon. Skagway - You could walk the entire village in 30 minutes probably. Sits at the tip of a bay and surrounded by huge mountains.. I had to fly into Skagway. Fly to Juneau first, then a small float plane up to Skagway. The fuel tank lever broke in mid flight. We had to sit down in the bay outside of Haines. A boat had to come out and tow us into Haines. Thank goodness it was a float plane. Sitka is a small combination of all the others. Edited April 24, 2020 by klfrodo
