bjay3 Posted September 29, 2020 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2020 Looking for some advice on what suite to pick on the Star. Should I go forward or aft? Which deck is recommended - 8,9 or 10? Thanks so much
coin ops Posted September 30, 2020 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2020 We haven't been on the Star, but have been on the Dawn and Pearl in aft suites. Deck 10 aft suites are highly recommended since they are deeper than on 8 or 9. Nothing like watching the wake with no wind.
milolii Posted September 30, 2020 #3 Share Posted September 30, 2020 Deck 9 is between two decks of cabins. So mostly quieter. Deck 10 is underneath a public space. We stayed in 9232 with the wrap around balcony, was wonderful.
Rare BSR Posted September 30, 2020 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2020 We stayed in deck 9 wrap around aft cabin a couple of times on the Star. We enjoyed it, especially sailing through the Panama Canal.
NW Pacific Posted September 30, 2020 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2020 Definitely AFT! 9 and 10 better, but if only 8 available, think it is better than forward WITH THE WIND FACTOR.
dexddd Posted September 30, 2020 #6 Share Posted September 30, 2020 There are several suite types to choose from. I'd pick a deck 10 OS although they now are in process of making them DOS at a higher price than deck 9.

don't-use-real-name Posted September 30, 2020 #8 Share Posted September 30, 2020 There are suites on deck 12 forward of the pool area adjacent to the library and meeting rooms. These are newer renovations circa prior to 2014. Some of these are the least expensive suites on the STAR with a great deal of floor space no balcony however. Linda the Book Lover Posted September 30, 2020 #9 Share Posted September 30, 2020 We sailed in Suite 9732 eons ago and loved it because it was a wrap to the side. The side is a standing room only or a small chair "stuffed" facing the bow. We found the balcony wonderful as there was three of us. We spent alot of time yelling "whale" and enjoying the view. We had great neighbors above and next to us and no noise. We would book this cabin again if life ever has the Star in our future again.

Based on the deck plans on the website, the area above those forward suites on deck 10 is the bridge, not a public space...? We've stayed in the forward suites on deck 10 on the Jewel and the Pearl (similar sister ships)...and loved 'em. In fact, we're booked in for one of those suites on the Star in 2022. We prefer forward suites...cause we like to see where we're going (as opposed to where we've been)...but that's a matter of personal preference. BUT, there are couple of things to be aware of if you select any one of those forward suites on 10 and 9... The first is that the front balcony can be windy when the ship is underway, so best to plan accordingly with layered clothing. But the owners suites have a side balcony (as well as a front one), so that's a great option for when it's cold and/or rainy. Also, being right beneath the bridge, you can see some of the ship's crew--and they can see you. Also, you can sometimes see some light from the bridge at night. We have never heard any noise coming from the bridge, though...we've found them to be very quiet suites. Finally, if there is a Haven area on the Star (and I'm not sure if there is)...those forward owners suites usually have access to that area--but they are not physically located within the Haven area. (At least this was the case on the Jewel and the Pearl.) For us, that's never mattered--but if that's important to you, you may want to make a different selection. Hope this is helpful... 😃

The JEWEL class ships (JEWEL JADE GEM PEARL) have a half pint Haven (no bar restaurant) On all six of these ships - - - The deck 10 OS is larger and the price tag is a tad higher than the smaller deck 9 suites. Basically comes down to a larger footprint adding a dining room. Yes while underway those forward suites can be wind driven - do not open balcony door and the interior entry passageway door at the same time - hurricane forces at play - something about flow through ventilation to the nth degree ! Also the lights on the forward balcony must be reduced dimmed at night or curtains deployed to prevent reflected light to the Bridge overhead on deck 11 - The JEWEL class ships have a Bridge viewing room on deck 11. Yes, I was unclear whether there was a "mini-Haven" on the Star. (Again, we never spent any time there on the Jewel nor Pearl.) Where is it...? It looks like it should be on deck 12 forward...but on the NCL website, it looks like there are smaller inside cabins in that area...? We've never had an issue with the lights--but I've heard others mention that...maybe it's that we've done mostly Alaska, so it's been light later and/or we don't turn lights on out there at night. And YES...the wind tunnel effect...! Once that happens, you learn VERY quickly to only open one door at the time...! 🙂

I was referring to the aft suites and I think you are referring to the forward suites. I could of been more clearer then just using the cabin number 9232 which is an aft suite. We have also sailed in a 2 bedroom on deck 11, also very nice. As far as I know, (last year,) no Haven on the STAR. Breakfast and lunch in a speciality restaurant. I also appreciate the other information about the other Gem class ships. Thanks.

So, is there no Haven area at all on the Star...? We don't spend time in those anyway...but we do love the suite breakfasts and lunches...! 🙂 Which restaurant are they held in...? Cagney's...? Moderno...?

milolii Posted October 1, 2020 #18 Share Posted October 1, 2020 On our voyage last year it was Moderno’s for breakdat and Cagney’s for lunch. Very nice European style small buffet and made To order breakfast as well. We are escorted to Cagney's on embarkation. The entire Suite group was Escorted at the same time. Boarding was a little delayed so I think that is why that happened.
