dogs4fun Posted June 18, 2021 #4601 Share Posted June 18, 2021 I cheated ... A Google search reveals that it is a Clyde Puffer & the VIC 32 is one of only two left. The History can be found here: http://savethepuffer.co.uk/history-of-vic-32/ One can book a cruise on the VIC 32.

I think that, generally speaking, you are correct - a barge carries freight and that is what the puffers also did. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clyde_puffer Edited June 18, 2021 by dogs4fun
Canal archive Posted June 18, 2021 #4603 Share Posted June 18, 2021 Basically yes it’s a steam driven sea going coal carrying barge. Watching it steam down the Caledonian canal was an experience. So your turn dogs4fun. CA
dogs4fun Posted June 18, 2021 #4604 Share Posted June 18, 2021 I turn it over to @capriccio as his/her correct response preceded mine. 🙂 There were books, stories & TV series about those Puffers - interesting.
Rare notamermaid Posted June 18, 2021 Author #4605 Share Posted June 18, 2021 Which, hooray, covers another canal we haven't had so far (I think). Would love to see that barge and the canal. The coronavirus upended my plans for a return to Edinburgh last year - oh, and will so this year I have just realized. Which gives more time to dream and find interesting places closer to home. I try to be optimistic, not always succeeding in my endeavour. Looking forward to capriccio's photo. notamermaid
Canal archive Posted June 18, 2021 #4606 Share Posted June 18, 2021 There are many steam barges still in existence but only two Clyde Puffers. CA
Canal archive Posted June 18, 2021 #4607 Share Posted June 18, 2021 Notamermaid if and when you go to Scotland you must go to the Forth and Clyde canal and see the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies both beautiful but in different ways. CA

dogs4fun Posted June 18, 2021 #4609 Share Posted June 18, 2021 (edited) Okay, I will take it. An easy one ... All you foodies out there - name the city, river, and restaurant where this photo was taken. It is an iconic restaurant in this city that specializes in this particular item. I am sure that many of you have eaten here. Edited June 18, 2021 by dogs4fun

Rare notamermaid Posted June 18, 2021 Author #4616 Share Posted June 18, 2021 Yup, lightweight! I fully admit that I can hide behind a not so thick tree. 😁 Disadvantage is that I will never manage a schnitzel from Figlmüller or get through a standard river cruise ship buffet in an attempt to try out all the food. Oh well, my lap is still big enough for my neighbour's tomcat to sit on, he thinks, so that is comforting. 🙂 notamermaid
