Haven Embarkation New York and NCL Joy Questions

Hi All,

We have Haven Suite booked on the NCL Joy out of NY September 1 2022,  we hope by then things will be back to normal. We are traveling from Ireland so will probably to 2/3 nights pre and post cruise or a multi trip all going well.

Just wondering is there any difference in NY with embarkation  we have done haven from Miami on the Getaway.

Is there  vip check inn after security or is there anyone we should look out for prior to entering the cruise terminal.

Do NCL still offer complimentary dining elsewhere for Haven guest in the american dinner first day and discount in Food republic the first night or has this stoped.

Having only sailed the Getaway ( Haven) and Epic a few times any tips or pointers for the Joy

Thanks

Keith

On my last cruise out of NY (Escape) 16 months ago, I hopped onto the ship on the Latitudes Platinum line without any delay while the Haven passengers were rather glumly waiting for a butler to escort them.

Yes, there's a separate Haven check in and seating area after security . They'll be staff on duty who can direct you to it.

Having never sailed on the Joy I have no idea what alternative dining might be available and regardless i wouldn't count on what was available in the past to still be available in the future.

Did Escape Haven 11/2019. Signs and people send you to Haven checkin towards the back. Easy checkin (if you do the docs ahead of time via NCL site). Once in haven you await your room and hangout as they bring drinks and sandwiches. Around 11 or 12 they open Haven restaurant for lunch (you can eat outside if warm enough). You will love haven and the Haven Observatory in front of ship on the JOY. We are sked for 09/20.

Hi Keith,

At Manhattan Terminal, you go through the security screen at the terminal entrance. Manhattan has 2 general check-in areas, one at the front of the terminal and one at the back.

Haven check-in is about 3/4 the way to the back of the terminal on the right. they will check you in there. The check-in area has a small waiting area with coffee and snacks. Just outside the Haven check-in is an overflow area. The Concierge staff will escort you from the check-in/overflow area onto the ship and directly to the Haven lounge.

Have a great cruise!  The link below was from our trip on the Joy shortly after she arrived in the U.S. We were in a Concierge Suite on that voyage. We are [hopefully] on the Joy later this year out of NY in a Haven suite.

Have a great cruise. The Observation Lounge is a great place to sit, relax, and enjoy the sea.

I can not answer your question regarding the American Diner or Food Republic. Ask the butler who escorts you from check-in to the Haven Lounge and confirm with the Concierge staff there.

If I had to speculate, I would say "yes". When I sailed on the Joy, there were approximately 80 Haven Suites (normal number of suites for a Breakaway Plus ship), and approximately 80 Concierge Suites (primarily put in to upsell to the Chinese market). Since the pandemic shutdown, NCL has re-designated a number of the Concierge Suites to Haven. So,,, there will be a lot more passengers in the Haven than it was designed to handle. So, I think that they will be looking for overflow lunch seating at the Am Diner.

We booked a Joy Haven for our next cruise (cancelled a few times already) to see if the additional rooms in the Haven has any impact on the Haven experience. Our last Joy voyage, we booked a Concierge Suite to be able to answer questions on that product, unique to the Joy.

BTW: The Epic has the best Haven in the fleet. We've sailed on the Epic around 7 times. Enjoyed every cruise.

Their is a separate area for Haven pax to go thru security and check in. If looking from the front of the building it was to the right. Who knows what check in will be like now. The haven lounge is pretty saw for the amount of haven pax. My wife and I arrived at 9:30 and were checked in and sitting in the lounge by 10am. By 10:30am the room was full and the line was out the door. We started boarding just before 11am

Boarding video below........

I never started cruising from New York and I wonder how the situation is there right now. From what I saw on the videos and photos from my fellow friends, the life is coming to normal. So I doubt there will be any problems boarding in New York, as well as embarking
