Restrictions that reduces the FUN

I get it, masks and restrictions are annoying. My glasses fog up, my ears hurt, I have acne, etc. However, I would gladly deal with those minor inconveniences to be able to look at something other than my house. For the past year, I leave my house only to get groceries. In 2019, I spent 4 weeks out of the country on vacation. I'm ready to go just about anywhere at this point.

Close quarters and close contact is more prevalent on cruises. We take a lot of things for granted.  What you say is not practical from a mass consumer cruise way of doing business. It seems specialized. Very specialized. And brings economic class levels into question.

It really changes the experience entirely.          

Every second of vacation counts (for those who work).  Just thinking every time you plan or go somewhere on the ship what exactly will occur in any situation is just disturbing matter, not a vacation whatsoever, and that is "glued" with paying thousands $ (if not tens of thousands) for a few days of "relaxation".  I literally cannot see such humans who would really enjoy such an experience.  It's not even about fun, it's about just not being able to have a basic relaxation.

Correct.  However, we compare daily life with what is know as vacation (holiday) which is precious for whose who work.

The reality is and from reading the various topics on this site for the past year no one agrees with others about covid and how its being handled or not handled. Put people on ships even at 50% - each person with a different thought to how safe it may or may not be, each person with a different number of risks or no risks. Some or maybe all vaccinated...

Do you think for a second when a couple of drinks are involved and the ship is well on its way there wont be mass fighting? I have been on ships out of NY in the summer where at the best of times nobody can behave and the crowds are rough - add in covid and the FUN level will just go up.

Because aside from the airport, there was literally no restriction anywhere I went. No masks, no capacity limits. You can gather a few people who say they want all of these things, but there are a lot of people who unequivocally, do not want these things. They do not want to wear masks while having fun. They do not want to go to venues where no one is. They do not want to do forced excursions.

 

Let's be real, a big portion of why Florida is this way is because it's what the people want. A few people can live in fear and say Florida doesn't care about health. They actually care what the majority of their residents and tourists want. This is what they want.

 

I challenge anyone to go to Florida, observe, and then argue that a highly restrictive cruise is going to be popular.

I have the same feeling all the time since I stepped of the Ponant ship on March 24, 2020 in Tahiti after a long cruise to nowhere from the Easter Island - the best cruise of my life (I'm not joking).  I flew home, and since then every morning I feel like yesterday was just nightmare from my sleep.  I came from the country where everyone is gloomy and angry.  Now it's the same here (it took 1 event to turn everyone upside down), and people have been laughing at me when I was telling them some stories from the past (no toilet paper, empty food shelves, bureaucracy, everyone relying on a gentle mister from the  government to decide for them how to live their lives, redistribution of wealth, making everyone "equal" - equally poor, ...).  It makes me so sick (I don't need a virus-shmirus).

It appears the more restrictive the state, the more a pearson seems to want to go on a restrictive cruise. Purely observation. I am over 65 and wore a mask when I went to the stores. However, I went to the stores when I wanted to and kept my distance (Walmart, Lowes, Publix, Costco etc...). In July I started playing golf again. The club required only one rider per cart, removed rakes from traps, and other rules to reduce touching.  I have now received both Covid shots. My decision is not to take a step or steps backwards for a cruise. Somebody else can have my spot. I will go when restrictions may be less confining.

Doesn’t sound like the “Fun Ship 🚢 “ for anymore.  Our past cruises were the most fun times we’ve had.  So when we go on vacation we get away from the restrictions of everyday life.  Now if I want to go on my favorite way to vacation, cruising, I’m given a list of RESTRICTIONS 😡.  No, I’m taking my money and going on a vacation with my husband where the only restrictions are between us 😉

Cruising is a first world problem. Since this is a cruise board it seems the right place to discuss concerns without being shamed.

I am taking things day by day.  In another 2 weeks I can actually hug my 80 year old dad.  We will both be 3 weeks since our second shots.   as the months go on, we will see changes all over.  so hopefully when I sail Christmas I will just need to wear a mask.  again, chair, sun, sea breeze and kindle is all I need.

If we are waiting for herd immunity we prob should all just sell our stock and move on.

 

Face covering will most likely become optional  at some point like in some states and then people are free to wear or not wear, There will never be a clear consensus on people agreeing what to do as everyone is emotionally charged one way or the other. The point will come where people who want continued restrictions and have no tolerance for the people who choice otherwise will have the choice of just staying stay home or joining the masses out. Things are moving to open up in all states. Its starting and it may have to do with some optimism in the vaccine or the point that people cannot take this much longer. 

 

 

FYI - Before anyone starts to argue or get political - I still plan on being a nut and wearing a mast, but I personally have no care as to what others do. If I am not comfortable somewhere I go somewhere else.

Herd immunity is coming, probably june, depending on the actual calcculations.  Israel will get there even sooner.  I will take wearing a mask as a logical decision, today it is logical.

Not to sound mean and this is not directed at the poster but... it does not matter what people think when they are on the ship.  The ship has rules and you follow the rules.  If you do not like the rules don't go.  If the rules say wear a mask then wear a mask.  Don't go off on your own at a port... don't do it.

 

As for mass fighting... having to deal with restriction all over the place, tensions will be high.  There will be some friction from both sides... the entitled morons who feel the rules do not apply and those that feel they need to call out everybody for not following the rules.  A cruise will not be the relaxing experience it has been especially at the beginning while they get the kinks worked out.

I'm tired of this *%#$ mask - but i still wear it so that things can get back to "normal" sooner than later. I'll wear it on the ship if I have to, but would rather wait to sail until there is no mask debate. We have a cruise booked for this October that I know we won't be going on whether the ship sails or not. 

 

If the ship is your happy place with or without a mask and you're down to see that beautiful sunset over the ocean regardless of the restrictions, I wish you a most wonderful time. My wife and I don't love the crowds on the ship, but the silly things we do love may not be the same. We love exploring a new port on our own, watching the partiers stagger back onto the ship, then over-indulge ourselves on soft serve in the buffet before a nice dinner in the MDR where we look forward to food being flung by napkin twirlers during "showtime". We love sharing a table with strangers at Red Frog Pub before embarkation who have enjoyed one too many of the half-off pitcher drinks. We love looking down from deck 5 onto the main floor and watching the cruise director entertain an atrium full of tightly packed folks. We love bopping around the casino and donating money to various machines - and land based casinos with social distancing are not as fun as they were pre-covid.

 

My wife was glued to the tv last spring as those cruisers were stuck in their cabin. I think it'll be a couple years before she is willing to step back on board for fear of that being her. To all of you willing to take the lead, I applaud you and thank you for doing your part to keep the industry afloat until the rest of us are ready to return.

IMHO, in Florida it's about the money and always has been. There is a LOT of criticism of Florida's response, and a lot of questions about their numbers. And it seems to be growing.

At the moment, I'd rather go on a highly restrictive cruise than hang out in Florida - especially around spring break.

I disagree wearing a mask currently is logical; however, I agree with you that herd immunity is around the corner.  An article in the WSJ just came out and a researcher claims by the end of April, it should be gone basically in the US.
