Thoughts on Carnival Magic?

Does the Magic still have the Tandoor? I mean, when people last sailed on her?

That's definitely NOT the Magic.  Magic only has 9 Life Boats per side.  The one in the Photo has 15, which is the Carnival Dream.

If you click on the picture, it enlarges, and you can read "Magic" right under the whale tail funnel.  So yes, it's the Magic.

I stand by what I said.  The Breeze and Magic BOTH have 9 Life Boats per side.  The Dream has 15 Life Boats per side.  Some one at Carnival "Photoshopped" the Dream with the New Hull Design and added Carnival Magic to the sign under the Whale Tail.

All 3 ships are of the Dream Class. So it stands to reason that they have the same number of lifeboats. Look at the Ship Class Guide.

You must be thinking of a different class of ship.

We sailed the Magic January 2020 and are sailing back to back September 2021. Everyone has different opinions that's why Baskin-Robbins has 33 flavors. My wife and I like the ship. We noticed that it was in need of TLC last year but I'm sure that it received rust removal and paint. It is a great ship!!

Weellllll....I may be eating crow. LOL. According to Wikipedia regarding the Magic:

 

"She has 1,845 passenger cabins and 746 crew cabins, and can carry over 6,000 persons in total. The lifeboat configuration of Carnival Magic differs from that of her sister ship, Carnival Dream, in that Carnival Magic has 18 double-size lifeboats, while Carnival Dream has 30 smaller boats.

We have sailed on the Magic twice and the Breeze once.  Loved both of them!

We had cove balcony on both, and those forward most coves are great.  Very quiet location.  Had a regular balcony on Magic last year and it was very nice.  The spa on both ships is amazing.

We were on the 2nd to last sailing of the Magic before the shutdown.  The biggest disappointment of our cruise was coming home to a world without toilet paper. 😱 Never dreamed it would be 18 months before we will sail again.

Magic is a great ship, I sailed her a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun. The cruise Director on that ship was the best. I believe it was Dr. E, but I'm sure if he is still on the Magic or not.

My family cruised on the Magic about 5 years ago and we had a terrific time. We are not hard core cruisers, that was our most recent and we are booked for the Vista this coming October. I would say that if you generally enjoy the carnival experience and its antics, as we do, you will like the magic.

I'm a fan of the Dream class of which Magic is a member.  They're large but not as big as RCCL's mega-ships so fairly easy to find places you're looking for.  I'm a huge fan of the Cove balcony cabins.  My wife tends to get a bit seasick at times and I like balconies.  So, the Cove works as they're on Deck 2 and we snag a cabin in the middle.  Being low and in the middle of the ship minimizes any movement.  You do have to study the deck plans because a lot of the Coves are under the kitchen and it tends to get a bit noisy at times (but not enough to keep me awake).  The ship has Guy's Burgers so that's a plus and, of course, the Seaside Theater where you can watch fairly new movies under the stars.  Other than that, the Magic is just like any other Carnival ship...friendly and helpful crew, good food and clean.  You'll have a blast!

You are so correct, Crushing985 about choosing your cove balcony location. We were on the Dream in a cove balcony, and unbeknownst to me, we were right below the storage area of the galley and we heard the protibial 'bowling ball' noise right above us every morning around 2:30 am. I'm a light sleeper and it woke me up almost every night, as I'm a light sleeper. The wife never woke up. It only lasted like 15 or 20 minutes, but enough to wake me up. It didn't bother me because I went out to the balcony to catch the wonderful night sea. It was stunning. Anyway....I figured out the bowling ball effect was actually the steel rollers of the pallet jacks they were using to move the pallets of food for the next days meals. No worries. It was worth it.

I have never sailed with Carnival.  We have only sailed with RC and NCL.  I have always said I would not sail with Carnival. I just thought it was the Walmart of cruise lines and heard bad reviews. Of course, this was many years ago.  

 

I decided I shouldn't think so negative about Carnival if I have never tried them.  So, my husband and I decided to try Carnival and give them a chance.  By  doing some research, I had read so many positive things and they seem to have some great itineraries, different from the others.

 

I booked a Bermuda cruise on the Pride out of Baltimore in August, which of course got canceled. I am going to try again with the Magic going to islands I like and out of Port of Canaveral.

 

One of these days I will get to sail Carnival, and then I can eat my words!

I love the dream class ships, have sailed on all of them,  my favorite is Breeze, then Magic, then Dream,

We sailed her in 2017 and loved her.

big ship, but because of the layout, she did not feel crowded.

Loved the Lanai - great for sunny days!

The only negative, was the design of the casino especially for non-smokers.

you have to walk through it to get from forward to aft ( and Vice-versa).

Bad design (and we spend considerable time in the casino).

We are booked on her again for next March - would be interested what (if anything) was upgraded during dry dock.

All I really need to be entertained is some relaxing time, places to explore, places to have a drink, good food, and music.

I've sailed on Harmony and have the Mardi Gras booked.  I couldn't (nor wouldn't) go back to the Magic.

Since I have nothing to compare it to, it will be the best cruise ever. When we go on Breakaway in April 2022, I will have something for comparison. When we can cruise after all the cancelations, RCL priced us off their ships.

Is there anywhere to read more about (or does anyone here know offhand) details of what is new or added in the recent dry dock refurbishment? Obviously paint and general cleaning, but I’m excited to learn about any new bells and whistles to look forward to on my October cruise.

I don't think there was anything. It was mostly scheduled maintenance and touchup. Other than the new sanitizers and wash stations, I don't think there is anything new to look forward to other than the paint job.

As someone who brisk walks 4 miles a day I was a little disappointed to see I had to walk a slalom course through plexi partitions placed there for outdoor seating areas for several of the venues. To a steady brisk walker these things are noticed. I still enjoyed my walks but I mention this as info for other walkers. Not a deal breaker by any means 🙂 

There is a dedicated walking/jogging track on deck 12 with no obstructions.
