Notice of Cabin Change from Carnival

 Share

Recommended Posts

Is anyone dealing with Carnival "Notice of Cabin Change" recently?

We had paid to "choose our own" room which was a quiet out-of-the-way porthole room.

As of this past Tuesday via a Carnival email, our room assignment was changed to a regular interior room that shares a wall with the IMAX screen. It is technically the same room category, but probably the last room we would have chosen on our own.

I reached out to both the Carnival Rep that made our original booking and the Rep from whose email account the room change notice was generated. No response from either as of this posting (on Friday).

Not sure if we are just s out of luck, or if we might have a chance to get a room more like we originally booked...

We had our cove balcony on the July 10th Vista cruise changed to one under the galley. We called customer service and they moved us to a regular balcony instead. It sucks but it seems they are doing it to reduce capacity.

I don't understand how shuffling cabins around will reduce capacity - you are still sailing, and occupying a cabin.

Maybe they are doing it because they are reserving certain areas of the ship for quarantining?  All cabins in the front third of the ship on that deck, or something, so your cove became part of that area and they just shoved you further down the hall?

Maybe same thing with the OP's cabin?  Portholes are often way up front and down low.  OP, which ship, which sail date?

I think part of it may be an attempt to put space between groups but I have no clue, only speculation.

I am very particular about my cabin location and I pass on cruises that do not have the cabin I want. I would frankly be on the phone talking and then yelling at everyone who got unlucky enough to get my call until they fixed it to my satisfaction or let me cancel.

Thanks KurtJ for the info - I'm on hold now thru the main Carnival number...

ProgRockCruiser - it's the Oct9 Vista

asalligo - agreed. We only chose this sailing because this particular porthole room was available at time of booking...

...still on hold...

OK, yeah I checked out the deck plans, and you definitely did not get a fair shake in this change.  Hopefully they will make it right for you.

Carnival can move you, but they should try to accommodate you within reason. Of course, these are not normal times.

Per the ticket contract

"(g) Specific stateroom assignments are not guaranteed. Carnival reserves the right to move Guests to a comparable stateroom for any reason, including but not limited to, instances in which a stateroom is booked with fewer than the maximum number of Guests the stateroom can accommodate; or when a partial Guest cancellation occurs and the remaining number of Guests do not match the maximum number of Guests the stateroom can accommodate."

Did you book a guarantee? If so then they technically have the right. I’d be on the phone to see if I can pay to upgrade to something I’d like better. Because next to the imax theater sounds absolutely terrible to me.

He said above he picked a port hole.

I once booked a port hole and got changed to a tiny 4E but never received any notice and didnt check.

My pvp and I became less friendly as she took carnivals side. She said I checked the box that said carnival has the right to change my cabin. If carnival sent a email it didnt come. I'm still mad. I didnt know until I unpacked in the wrong cabin. Now I use a TA who takes my side.

That’s really crappy. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen that tab that says carnival can change my cabin. I’m pretty selective when I pick mine and I wouldn’t be happy.

It's been in the ticket contract forever, but they usually don't switch. Sometimes a cabin needs maintenance. Heck, Carnival can even substitute a different ship.

When you click to print out your boarding pass, sure enough you agree they can change your cabin. Lol read that stuff before you click ok next time .. still they should have told me.

To add insult to injury was a stormy cruise and the door was locked to walk out on the area in front of the 4E, and the sign says you have to close the blackout curtains every night. I like port holes to see the weather when I wake up from my bed. Plus I had a larger cabin.

I suppose there’s some logic there. And I’m sure Carnival does have a good reason. But I’d still be disappointed.

Thanks all for the responses. Very much appreciated.

The follow up from my OP:

Finally got thru to a very nice rep on the main Carnival number, but after a while she realized she could not help b/c we had originally booked a casino-rate room. She transferred me to someone in the casino department. After about 15mins of re-explaining myself and some back and forth, the call dropped. As the call did not seem to be going anywhere fruitful, we'll let sleeping dogs lie. She tried, but could not find an explanation for why we lost our original room. She simply stated that they did not have any available rooms similar to the one we originally chose through the "choose your own room" booking option (in type or location) - unless we wanted to pay more - which we don't. I asked what was intended by the "choose your own room" booking option in the first place when the call dropped...so I did not get an answer to that question either...

This will be our 8th and final cruise on Carnival.

We'll bring earplugs, use our OBC and still have a great time. Our future cruises, though, will be with someone else...

I was pretty mad too, but never say never. Idk what you can do except call the casino folks again and ask for a supervisor. At least you know ahead of time. It never happened to me before so it didnt occur to me to recheck my cabin #. My pvp said maybe they thought it was a upgrade and had no sympathy.

I did change to a TA now. At this pt you can see I lean toward rcl, but I just want to cruise again. I'm planning a lot of specialty eating .. go and enjoy a good steak and think about it. A great pvp is great ... until it's a carnival issue I found. Then she is on carnivals side.

Sometimes we book what we call "down and dirty" cruises...if we find cheap airfare of Michigan and a cheap price on an inside cabin we will do a quick 3 or 4 day.

Was checking in at port and was told we got a free upgrade to an ocean view from our inside and got all excited.  Then we found out that we were right under the kitchen.  The noise and constant smells in our room was overwhelming.  And none of our notices and paperwork and gifts, etc. found us.  We had to keep going to the front desk and getting it.

No he had the "choose your own room" which they did.

I'll share my tale.  I booked one of my favorite cabins in steerage on the Panorama for September a couple of weeks ago.  I made final payment on it a few days later, since it was due at the regular time.  A day later, and just a day before final payment was officially due, they switched my cabin to something I wouldn't choose on a bet.  At that point I had a few options - get in touch with my PVP and sort it out, call customer service and take my chances there, or the option I chose - cancel and put a hold on the same cabin on the opposite side of the ship.  I figure Carnival will refund me eventually (I haven't checked my CC statement) and it sounds like I saved myself some aggravation.

Just so you are aware, this can happen on any cruise line.

It has happened to me on Princess, but I was fortunate enough to get my original cabin back. I always say "No Upgrades" on my bookings, but even then, it doesn't always work.
