Horizon status in now yellow.

Well, the Horizon started their initial cruise as Orange with the CDC.

That followed with a green status last week.

Now they have turned yellow today.

That means face mask for all crew even outside.

So, what's next and the reason for the yellow status?

I have to assume this is crew related or others would have been shown the door?

The rumor is there was a passenger on the current sailing who has tested positive and was quarantined at one point. Heard also there was a slight delay for passengers getting off at one of the ports too so they could have disembarked a positive passenger.

on another thread I read that two people were on the horizon the week of July 4th, they were both vaccinated, then went home and tested positive. They were feeling sick towards the end of the cruise but did not think it was Covid. Maybe that's why? They figure it could have spread?

On board Horizon now and everything appear hunky dory. Even had a self-serve ice cream cone today.

Haven't seen any ambulances in ports, even though there was a call for the stretcher team to the casino the other night. I needed help carrying my winnings.

Maybe yellow means there are people onboard in quarantine, like a positive case on Horizon for example and new crew still quarantining while vaccines take effect on Mardi Gras....   maybe.

I did see a couple of people boarding today - maybe new entertainment?

The status list notes that the CDC are investigating.

According to the CDC site, yellow status  means the following....

  • Yellow status means the ship has met the threshold for CDC investigation because the ship has met one of the following criteria:
    • at or above the investigation threshold for crew COVID-19 cases,
    • at or above the investigation threshold for passenger COVID-19 cases; or
    • state or local health department notified CDC of passenger COVID-19 cases occurring within 5 days of disembarkation.

Unless the Federal Appeals Court overturns, or puts a stay on Judge Merryday's order, then the CDC's policies and status colors mean absolutely nothing to Horizon cruises as of Monday.  The CDC didn't respond with "lesser" guidelines by the deadline, so in Florida, their rules are null and void on the 18th, again unless the  appeals courts intervenes.

Sounds like local/state health depts may report test results back to the cdc and if its within a certain time frame after a cruise, that adds into a threshold number that can change a ship's color status and prompt further investigation if the threshold is reached.

Horizon cruises, maybe.  Not Vista or Breeze.

Is the CSO enforicble in Florida after July 18?  No.  Does the CDC & Coast Guard still retain authority to stop vessels from access to the US if they present a significant risk of spreading a contagious disease?  I'm gonna go with yes.

Merryday's ruling only effects enforcement of the CSO in Florida.  Those ships are sailing from Texas right now.  Other states could file their own lawsuits and cite FL's case as precadent, but haven't done so.  FL's case is also heading to appellate court.

Can you point to me where it says it only applies to Florida only?

He is correct.  The ruling only applies to cruises out of Florida at this point.  That is why I specifically mentioned Horizon, and since that was the ship in this discussion.

Want to bet on Texas?  How does the CDC impose different rules for different states.  You over step the same across the board, federal judge was harsh on their mismanagement.

I agree, but the ruling was crafted to affect only Florida right now since it is an injunction based on the fact that the Judge feels Florida can/will win on the merits of the case.  Texas is not yet officially a part of the lawsuit.  That would probably happen if/when the case goes to trial.

We were on the Horizon July 4-10. No one in my family became sick. We also flew to and from the port on one of the busiest travel weekends and used Carnival bus transfers. I have a friend  who just vacationed in Orlando last week and came back with Covid. She is also fully vaccinated,  so it can happen anywhere.
