Deja Vu all over again....EDGE sailing Eastern Caribbean in S2-8/17-8/24

So my Butler just stopped me in the hallway and said she’d help me pack.  Told her she was in a hurry to see me leave if that’s the case.  She began to apologize profusely.  Told her I was making a feeble attempt at humor.

 

In any event, it will take me all of 5 mins to pack and help, while appreciate, is totally unnecessary!

 

Not much on today’s agenda.  So, not sure what to report.  Hope you all found some info you can use, maybe a chuckle here and there.

 

Will do a total review follow up here and maybe post some add pics when I get home.

If you've been in airplane mode the whole time, then Verizon won't bill you. All your calls have been made using the ship's wifi.

So, some of the things Captain Kate mentioned today…

 

I was mistaken that the EDGE is the most expensive cruise ship ever made.  It is, but in the class of vessel that has a capacity of less than 3,000 passengers.  Sorry if I misled some of you.

 

-Crew on board=1,000 from 71 countries.  Normal crew capacity is 1,380 crew.

-Full passenger capacity is 2,800 passengers.  Current passengers is about 1,000 passengers.

-At the time of shutdown, there were 1,300 crew

-The smallest crew numbered 100 during the shutdown at one period

-She was on board for 318 days straight upon the first day of shutdown

-Black water (toilet water) has the solids separated from the liquids on board the ship’s recycling process.  The solids are compressed, dried and incinerated into next to nothing.  The liquids are purified to the point where it is safely drinkable/consumable.   It is bottled as drinking water.  It is not offered on Celebrity but is sold to Carnival Cruise lines*

 

*I’m sure that last part was a joke……………….I think!!!!!!!!

I did not spend too much time in the Oceanview cafe.  However, I spent this afternoon by the pool (where there was a synchronized swimming demonstration/contest by some passengers).

I’m an Apple nerd.  I always preferred Apple based tech products over those by their competitors.  Quite a coups by Celebrity to snag one of their authorized stores.

 

The downside, they don’t carry Apple’s latest products.  They are about a generation behind.  But, how cool would it be to work in an Apple store on a cruise ship?

I will say even though their iPads were 7th generation, it was a pretty good deal for $329 (and no tax) if you had an old Samsung that needed replacing and you had a bunch of nonrefundable OBC to spend. 😎

I agree.  Unfortunately, I was looking at an Apple Watch…either an SE or 6.  All they had were 5s…at the same price as the current 6s.

 

Still, as you mention, not a bad way to save on taxes and burn through OBC.

That is great! She is awesome. On our Celebrity Suite deck 11 back to back July 3 to July 17 we loved her. If you have time please tell her we said hello, missed saying goodbye on disembarkation and will be seeing her again on September 4th. Working on getting a CS again. She did move our luggage and clothes from one room to the next but we did not have her pack for us either. She is too sweet!

This is mostly due to low traffic. They were about three months behind in the past, not a full year.  We bought an iPad on an S class ship a few years ago and it was current model at the time and only a few months after intro.  It also included WiFi package making it cheaper then retail if you needed the WiFi.  This was before WiFi was frequently included.

Well, here we are, back where we started.  What a great cruise.  Will get more specific and provide odd pics and general review/final thoughts later.

Thanks. Your posts have us so stoked for our first ever Celebrity (we're kinda hard core Royal, but had our Aug. 28 Oasis trip cancelled and jumped to this cruise) cruise on Aug. 28. As we're in a mere IV cabin (can't wait to be able to weigh in on pros and cons, there), we'll be more focused on the mainstream parts of the ship, and are excited at the idea of the ship being less crowded.
