Should I Stay or Should I Go? Final Payment Quandry.

Like most of us, I had a cruise cancelled due to covid and the one I booked in it's place is coming up in November.  I got an email reminder today that it's just about time to make a final payment on the cruise I booked that includes the OBC I received from the cancelled cruise.  This is the cancellation information I see about this cruise "CANCELLATIONS OR CHANGES NOT ALLOWED FOR BOOKING WITH PREVIOUSLY WAIVED PENALTY" so I feel like I am going to lose everything including OBC if I cancel this cruise but I'm also hesitant about investing in the final payment.

I'm wondering if anyone else has navigated a cancellation with this message that pretty sure is telling me there is no option for that. I was just also wondering what other people are doing in my position.  We really don't know what things are going to be like come November, things certainly don't look great.  I live in a hotspot of covid right now.

Just want to cruise. I feel like I'm in this position of cancelling and losing a lot of money or paying and then having to cancel later and losing a lot more. I'm so torn.

Unless you or those you are traveling with have a health condition that makes cruising too risky, I would go. If your cruise is canceled, you will still get a refund or be given a FCC without penalty. It is only a problem if you cancel it, which I hope isn't a problem if you want to cruise!

The only good thing about being in a Covid hot spot right now is that, unless you live in a large city, it should be much better by November. Hot spots are both driving vaccines (a little late, but still a positive) and they are exposing more people which also builds their immunity.

I know that is a difficult position and no one can really answer that for you.

Our experience has been we found we lost a lot more if we canceled ourselves rather than waiting for Carnival  to cancel.

We have a cruise in November and will wait it out…..

They are only allowing cancellations to be waived they oct so far. That's how far out they have protocols.

I'm thinking of staying on the ship to lessen any risk. I've been to all my ports many times.

You will be allowed to lift your deposit to a later date without penalty if you say you are worried about protocols.

Idk what else. Refunds are only thru oct, you would need to pay and wait.

You say final payment is due, but didn't see you specified if you have paid in full as of yet?  If not, the 1st thing I would do is call them and ask them to extend your final payment day.  Many people are having success with this and it will buy your more time to put out more money.

Second thing I would do is, if you want to cruise then just wait, don't jump the gun.  Allow them to get to November sailings and see what happens.  You can the make a better decision that won't cost you $$ out of pocket and if you move the cruise you won't loose all that OBC you have.

Third thing if you really are pretty sure you want to change it now, and push it out then you may be able to do it without penalty.  I just moved my November cruise out to April of next year.  We have 3 others booked before November and decided to wait until April for our 4th.  We didn't loose any $, and our OBC (from a previous cancellation) transfer too.  Pick out a future sailing you like and call and ask.

We were  booked for November on the MG and very recently moved the cruise to June 2022.  Our $1200 OBC carried over and there was no penalty to rebook other than pay the cruise fare difference.   All change fees were waived and it was easy as can be.

I have the same problem. I cancelled my odyssey of the seas cruise because they require testing for vaccinations and that was my red line. I can do a mardi gras cruise in 11 days but I am not sure if they will change the rules again. For me this is a free oceanview with $500 casino cash and free drinks anywhere on board. A good deal for my son and I and we are fully vaccinated but we are against testing. What to do what to do.

No, I haven't made the final payment.  I'll give a call and see how far they will push it out.

A PVP or good TA should be able to get cancellation penalties waived. The only time I have ever had to pay a cancellation or fee was when we literally substituted a new person on a booking like 3-4 days before the cruise, and then it was like $99.

How late before sailing do you feel would be safe to cancel based on those concerns?
I would like the option to cancel close to sailing date but it’s very close now.  🤔

Idk. If your cruise is soon, i would want to know and call. If carnival has a hard and fast rule it's not published.

I feel for you.  I have a cruise booked for December, on the fence as well.  I am leaning towards cancel, but wait and see what my thoughts are in a couple of months.  However I have 2 cruises booked for later in 2022.  After cancelling all travel plans in 2020 and half of 2021 so far my vacation account has really grown!

I'm vaccinated and will be cruising with 95% others vaccinated on the Horizon at the end of the month and again on the MG over Halloween.   The majority of the 5% will be kids and all of the crew will be vaccinated. So, I'm not worried about things on board.  The only worries would be in ports.   Since HMC and Amber Cove are two we will be getting off of the ship for, I'm not worried since we're not doing excursions, just swimming in the ocean and pool.  In November we will be visiting Roatan and thinking of going to the Sloth sanctuary.   Will make a decision in 10 weeks.

Us too. December Leaning toward cancelling. We only have small deposits to lose as they were lower to get bookings. What if we get a false positive or even a real one. We have been vaccinated so symptoms would most likely be not a factor.

Trying to figure out what else we could do.

Look we booked late in June and went July 24th based on the protocols for Covid.

So consider your risk.

We masked when and were we felt needed, but with the recent outbreak we decided to stay out of the DR,  But went ashore in Aruba and Curacao on ship excursions.

Wudl we go again, yes but masked up more and if things worsen, we may wait more.

We ant to cruise again by Oct due to the reduced capacity.

CCL will try to fit as most on as possible in my opinion and change the pool water twice daily.  Got gross by 1 pm.
