Just off the Vista

Recommended Posts

So what do you know about how the positive covid cases were handled. Do you know exactly how many? Did they announce anything publically or keep it quiet.

Tia I'm in vista in 34 days. Been on vista before so just interested in what's new.

Did you by chance book any pay dinners. Was there a special price for 3?

The big question is what the mask enforcement was like once that policy went into place. JH has made comments like "you won't have to wear the mask while sitting in the piano bar" and it seems that may not be true.

So It was Wednesday around 530pm and the captain came on the intercom and announced that we have passengers that were positive for COVID. Stated that a mask was mandatory for all indoor places other than the restaurant while eating and drinking. Must wear when walking into restaurant and eating areas. On day 6 I was sitting in lido area eating and they had security at the sliding door making you put on mask when entering. I will answer more shortly and continue with this, about to get tested to make sure all is ok.

I would not expect details from Carnival or anyone else, they want to keep this as low key as possible.  This from the Washington Post:

Carnival’s new mask policy went into place on Wednesday aboard Carnival Vista, where the company is “managing a small number of positive cases on board,” spokesman Vance Gulliksen said in an email. He would not say how many cases, whether the passengers were vaccinated or what their condition was.  “We have identified and tested close contacts and anyone who tested positive is in isolation,” the statement said.  Carnival Vista’s status is listed as “yellow” on the CDC table.  Cruise companies including Carnival, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Oceania Cruises and Royal Caribbean International did not provide information in response to questions about most of their ships that were listed as orange or yellow.

So if you were sitting at a bar like alchemy, you had to put the mask on between sips? A rule like that is what will keep me at the outdoor bars as much as possible.

If you were drinking or eating you didn’t have to wear a mask. Indoors was strict, outdoors was not. Went to IMAX movie and was told to wear it. So on Thursday morning we got off in Cozumel, I noticed 4 people seating on the furniture outside of the ship. They had all of their suitcases with them. I did ask my room attendant if any of the employees had it and he said a couple of the entertainers(dancers) where being Quarantined. As far as any announcements on numbers, nothing official. Rumors where around 7-8 and one medical ER that was not COVID related.

Yes, we did Ji Ji, and steak house. I have to say that we never had any long waits on dinner at all. Service was the best that we ever had. I did see a special on 3 meals. I think it $60. Food was very good. In the main dining room the selections where not as good as before. Especially the sides and deserts.

I think this will be interesting to see this week.  I think JH was speaking about the general rules on all ships while the Vista had even stricter rules based on known cases.  At least that's the way I understood his responses to questions this morning about smoking in the casino.  I am guessing the same is true of the mask policy.

This is the "official" mask policy which will obviously change if there is an outbreak.

MASKS & PHYSICAL DISTANCING (Effective with sailings departing August 7, 2021)

We strongly encourage all guests to wear face masks when indoors, particularly guests who are unvaccinated, including children under the age of 12 who should wear masks in public areas, except when eating or drinking. All guests age 2 and older will be required to wear face masks in elevators and in designated indoor entertainment areas, all retail shops, and in the casino, except when eating or drinking. Guests will be required to wear face masks prior to being seated in our main dining rooms and in the Lido Buffet area and occasionally in other designated areas where larger number of guests may congregate (signs will be posted). Additionally, masks are required at any indoor activity with children under 12 years, (i.e., Build-A-Bear®, Family Harbor, Sky Zone®).

Vaccinated guests are not required to maintain physical distance on board the ship.

All guests must wear masks during the entire embarkation and debarkation process (at the home port and ports of call, including the onboard pre-debarkation process), during water shuttle operations, any Carnival-approved shore excursions and while on any transportation vehicles. Additionally, when going ashore, guests must be prepared to follow all local guidance regarding masks and physical distancing. The status of local guidelines will be shared with guests prior to debarkation at the destination.

NOTE: Alaska health officials monitoring the situation ashore have strongly recommended that all guests, including those fully vaccinated, wear a face mask at all times while indoors and also outside when physical distancing cannot be maintained. U.S. regulations require all persons to wear a face mask on public transportation including buses, trains, vans, airports, aircraft and dayboats. It is recommended that unvaccinated guests maintain physical distancing as follows:

  • Indoors – Remain at least 5 feet from others not in your cruise companion group. As such, we encourage you to take the stairs whenever possible, if you are able to do so.
  • Outdoors – Remain at least 3 feet from others when not wearing a mask and not in your cruise companion group.

I might try the $60 for 3, I'd also do the cheaper one but worried if I can get reservations for 6 meals.

How did you like JiJis?  I plan an several meals here. Dont know how hard to get reservations. I'll try the steak house but not my thing so much.

I forgot about the smoking rules, smoking was not allowed anywhere indoors on the ship. A couple of locations outside for smoking.

I think it's next week right? I thought I read the protocols go into effect on the 14th. If so it's kind of stupid that you don't need a mask this week but you do need one next week.

Mask started on the 7th, testing starts on the 14th.

In your opinion.Do you think, that these people are the ones. That had the virus? And that this is the protocol? To disembark people, that test positive at next available port?Asking, because i trully would not.Want to be left at a foreign port.Husband had a coworker. That happened to back in March. In Dominican Republic.

Yes had soap bars. Shampoo/body wash and conditioner. You could find plenty of hand soap gel everywhere onboard.

Great, thanks! I hate showering with that gell/liquid stuff. I'll take my own bar soap if a cruise line doesn't have it. Sounds like I don't need to do that for this trip (8.14 - 8.28).

I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I don’t know where you got the answer, “You’ll be taken care of.” The Carnival policy simply states that you may have to quarantine before you can return home. The passenger bears responsibility for all related expenses.

You refer to people who tested positive on this cruise. There is no information about them. The ones who flew home did so for some other reason because people who test positive are not allowed on international flights.
