Indoor Mask Enforcement on the Vista?

We are sailing on the Vista on Sept 18. We sailed on the Breeze on July 24 and indoor masking was a "recommendation" but no one except the crew were wearing masks and there was no enforcement. But that was before the new policies released 3 weeks ago. Has anyone sailed on the Vista in the past three weeks? Are they enforcing this policy indoors and, if so, how?

I just sailed on the Horizon (first  cruise requiring testing and masking) and yes the mask wearing is being enforced and 99% of people were masked when it was required. Masks are required inside the ship wherever people are close together (comedy and shows), walking into restaurants, hallways, elevators and of course the casino. Most everyone was cooperative and I hope that there has not been anyone that has gotten sick from being exposed on the cruise. If we all follow the rules and keep each other safe cruising will be able to continue. Masking is important to stop the spread even among the vaccinated. Enjoy the cruise!

We are just now nearing the end of two weeks on the Vista.
The vast majority of (though certainly no all) pax have worn masks inside throughout our time on board.
Of course, there will always be “those people”

In these cases, there has been ZERO enforcement that I’ve seen by ship’s personnel.
The only enforcement I saw was by one of the terminal security folks in Galveston on 8/14 during embarkation.

I guess no reports of covid on the ship.

I think masks in terminals is a federal requirement.

Saied on Vista August  14. They had people in most of the elevator hall ways and aft Lido entrances enforcing the mask rules. Somehow most children were invisible to them as I can see the entire kids faces while in the elevators.

Not at all an accurate statement.

We were  on that cruise as well as the following one on 8.21. Yes, staff were/are in the elevator lobbies and at entrances to the buffet bot no, we’ve yet to see one of them speak to anyone who was not masked.

I’ll grant you that there were likely some who did but we are now halfway through day 13 and we’ve NEVER seen it.

Not any staff monitoring/enforcing use of hand sanitizer or hand washing. Anyone remember noro?

If at that time it was only recommended, there was nothing to enforce. I believe now it is required and is being enforced.

.  Especially for those that are willing and able to take stairs most of the time.

Walking the stairs allows me no limits on warm chocolate melting cake.  In addition to not being on a crowded elevator, of course.

We are a society it seems that cannot do anything on our own and needs constant monitoring and enforcement to follow rules.  I for one dont need or require anyone else to tell me to use hand sanitizer on a ship with 5000 plus other people on board that are not my immediate family and i have no idea as to their personal hygeine habits or medical history. I also dont require a police officer tailing me every day to make me follow posted speed limits. Personal Responsibility is what its called.

This "strongly encourage" indoor mask policy is for the birds. Either require people to wear a mask (and enforce it) or don't recommend masks. With the "encourage" policy people who are trying to do the right thing and protect others by wearing a mask feel like suckers for doing so while others walk around freely without one.

Yes, mask enforcement would be a big headache for Carnival. But if you want a mask policy, that headache should come with the territory.

In my opinion, anyone who doesn't like wearing a mask and doesn't want to follow the rules should rebook their cruise for next year.  I rebooked my cruise for next year because wearing a mask all day is not a vacation to me.   If someone doesn't  like the rules and has a problem following them, then they should not be in an area where the rules apply.  It's annoying when people know the rules (for anything, not just masks) and choose to break them.

Right now, they have to bring back to strict mask mandates.  I am getting crazy cheap offers to cruise right now. A 7 day on the Panorama for $55 per person! An 8 day on the Horizon for $90 per person! A 7 day of the Vista for $90 per person!  Oh, so freaking tempting to a mask hater like me.  LOL.

OK, you for one don't need it. Can you safely assume the same for the other 4999 passengers? I think not.

Still, admittedly it can be annoying. You walk out of the bathroom after washing your hands and they want you to squirt sanitizer on them before you enter the buffet. If only they could separate the responsible from the irresponsible and only make the latter go through the hand sanitizer police.

What works for me is to wash my hands frequently.  I always wash them right before eating, after handling public utensils and dispensers.  I've never gotten sick on a cruise.  I think as long as people are careful with their own hygiene, it will eliminate a lot of the risk.

Casino rates I'm guessing?  They seem to be really targeting the gamblers, presumably on the assumption they'll still make a good profit on them in the end.  I'm not seeing anything like that on the website.

The Rules are put in place for all of our safe cruising. I would hope that if you are not aligned with the current Carnival Cruise Rules then you would consider waiting until the Rules are potentially relaxed.

We all deserve the opportunity to Cruise again safely.

It is sadder when they refuse to do so because they are mandated to and it is their constitutional right not to… And it is sad that some consider it communism when preserving the health and safety of everyone supersedes their individual rights.

Can you show all of us and the kids at home where the constitution forbids masking?

I'd love to read it.

In the meantime, I offer this....the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Honorable John Roberts.

Chief Justice John Roberts’s invocation of Jacobson in a recent religious liberty case is a significant signal. In South Bay United Pentecostal Church v. Newsom, the Chief Justice affirmed the central position of Jacobson v. Massachusetts:

Our Constitution principally entrusts “[t]he safety and the health of the people” to the politically accountable officials of the States “to guard and protect.” Jacobson v. Massachusetts, 197 U. S. 11, 38 (1905). When those officials “undertake to act in areas fraught with medical and scientific uncertainties,” their latitude “must be especially broad.” Marshall v. United States, 414 U. S. 417, 427 (1974). Where those broad limits are not exceeded, they should not be subject to second-guessing by an “unelected federal judiciary,” which lacks the background, competence, and expertise to assess public health and is not accountable to the people.

Now, while I am confident that you are well trained in law, I would be curious to see how your CV stacks up against the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.

Have a great day.

The trouble is, in most cases they aren't really rules, just recommendations. Leaving everyone to do whatever they want.

I know this title of this thread refers to the Vista, but I am currently on the Miracle.  About 95% of the passengers are adhering to the mask policy, but I see unmasked people all over the ship, and I have never seen a staff member speak to anyone about masking up.  I went to Guest Services several days ago to mention this, and shortly thereafter they made a single overhead announcement in the casino.  Since then, nothing.  Those few people remain unmasked in the elevators, hallways, theater, casino, trivia, etc.  People who are counting on 100% masking indoors might be disappointed unless things change.
