Back in June many here claimed that "a single case of Covid" would shutdown the industry. Then August arrived with the Vista reporting ~30 cases and 1 Covid death on a single sailing, yet despite the numbers putting it above the CDC's own 1.5% threshold for shutdown, we get crickets from the CDC. The threat of "shutdowns" is clearly an idle threat at this point. There are going to be outbreaks. The presence of the mask police will not change this. The death of that individual was not due to cruising, there was a statement put out by her family as everyone assumed it was cruise related. I do not think it is a idle threat, I do not want the cruises to stop, so I will do my best and follow the rules and keep my mask on as required. The crew was so happy to be working again, some suffered tremendous hardships as many others have.

I'm gonna regret taking this cruise after being on that ship for for 30 minutes I know. On board my flight down now so I guess I'm committed. This mask on my face is already causing me anxiety. t My mom is gonna owe me dearly for enduring the misery this cruise is bound to. If you are going to have the mindset before you are even on the ship that you will be miserable and regret the cruise...... You already said you will not be going to the theater, comedy shows, elevators and piano bar, so drink where you can social distance away from others. The ship is amazing and has the most seating areas outside and inside of any ship I have been on so far in the Carnival fleet. Try to make the best of it and enjoy. The decks have a lot of seating everywhere. It was cold on the ship too, not stuffy so that should help at least for me. The islands, as long as you are on the beach, water you do not have to wear a mask. Have a good time with your Mom! I wish my Mom was still here to take a cruise with, mask or no mask.
grumpyjr88 Posted September 3, 2021 #53 Share Posted September 3, 2021 (edited) You don't wear a mask to protect yourself. 🤦♀️ You're wearing it to help limit YOUR germs from spreading. Why is this so hard a concept? 💁♀️ Edited September 3, 2021 by grumpyjr88 6

She seems to be going in with a negative attitude, and if you do that, it will suck
CruisinWithDLS Posted September 5, 2021 #55 Share Posted September 5, 2021 Just got off Vista. Booked a spa cabin and spent a good amount of time in spa. I was not bothered by the masking as much as I thought I would be. Cruised very different than normal for us. We avoided crowds and masked areas for the most part. Still had a very relaxing and enjoyable cruise and would do it again in a heartbeat!
jetsfan58 Posted September 5, 2021 #56 Share Posted September 5, 2021 I am in no way the smartest individual via this forum but I was blessed with some common sense. Wouldn't it be safer if we were all vaccinated and wearing mask? What am I missing? Again I can't or won't try and speak for any of you. We all have our own reasoning. I have been totally transparent as I have not stopped wearing my mask due to family underlying medical issues. It has certainly not stopped me from enjoying life each day. This is my story and I will be wearing my mask until suggested to do otherwise. Enjoy your mask wearing choices where you can; I don't have a choice.

I'm curious about how thing are at the Alchemy Bar where my wife and I spend a lot of time. Will I need a mask on until I take a sip of my drink or is sitting at a bar considered actively drinking? I sailed the Miracle Aug 17. I spent most evenings at the Alchemy bar listening to live music and talking to the bartenders and other patrons. I would order my cocktail masked and only remove it once I had my drink. I found most people did the same. There is room to spread out there so a little easier to “breathe freely” than say, the atrium bar. Maybe it was because I travel solo that it was a little easier for me to “socially distance” my party of one, but I did not find the masking taking away from any of my fun. I’ll admit, I thought it was going to be a big deal, but it just wasn’t. The only time it was bothersome was during our longer than expected embarkation and debarkation. They enforced it mostly then and at the comedy club where seating again is pretty close. I didn’t sit at the piano bar but had a table by myself which made me comfortable sipping my drink mostly mask less. There were crew stationed around the ship solely to remind you to mask up but most people followed the rules (or I wasn’t paying attention to those who weren’t). For what it’s worth, I felt entirely safe and had a great time. Hope that helps. Edited September 5, 2021 by chefchick
BigMomma409 Posted September 6, 2021 #58 Share Posted September 6, 2021 On the Breeze a few weeks ago, I can tell you not a single word was said to anyone regarding enforcement in my earshot once we got out of the terminal. I was hesitant to say anything to people because I didn't want to put a damper on anyone else's vacation. I don't think I'll be quite as mousy on this next one...especially in elevators when you have those people who refuse to wait for the next one and instead push themselves into an already full one. I had far too many people climb into elevators with me with no mask on. People that sat down next to me in the casino with no drink or no cigarette with no mask on. People that sat down next to me in the theatre with no drink with no mask on. I mean...it's really a self-policing policy.

jsglow Posted September 6, 2021 #64 Share Posted September 6, 2021 (edited) I'm not going to lie. Your cruise IS compromised. Lots of different ways. Only you can judge if it's too much. We had a GREAT time and head out 2 more times here in '21, God willing. Edited September 6, 2021 by jsglow

sc4125 Posted September 7, 2021 #71 Share Posted September 7, 2021 Just got off the Mardi Gras a few days ago. I had a great time and other than forgetting my mask a few times and having to go back to the cabin to get it, I surprisingly found that wearing a mask indoors did not effect my cruise as much as I thought it would. For the most part, everyone walking around indoors was wearing a mask. Several children obviously younger than 12 never wore a mask which really bugged me - I know, blame the parents, but most of the time they weren't with parents. Never saw any staff say anything to them. I just stayed as far away from them as possible. If you hate wearing masks, you will not enjoy a cruise. You would probably be happier waiting until things get better (if they ever do) - but please I beg you on behalf of your fellow cruisers - don't gripe about doing something you agreed to do before ever getting onboard. Just follow the rules or don't cruise. I didn't hear many people complaining, but there were a few and it took everything in me to not ask them if they why they decided to cruise. You want to be miserable - great - but please don't make everyone else miserable.
arkaine23 Posted September 7, 2021 #72 Share Posted September 7, 2021 (edited) Just can't buy into the minor inconvenience of wearing a mask is unbearable mindset. Happy to do so to protect the crew, fellow passengers, and people working in the foreign destination ports. It was little uncomfortable enduring some hours in the heat at ports, so pick beach/swimming excursions? Doing no excursuon and just shopping in Belize was probably a mistake, but I managed for 3 hours in the heat in a mask just fine. happy cruzer Posted September 7, 2021 #73 Share Posted September 7, 2021 So is anyone wearing a N95 mask? They work and they have to be tight which most find uncomfortable for very long. All other masks work to various limited degrees. Some areas of the world are requiring the N95s which might make a difference in a vacation decision.
BenjiRodney Posted September 7, 2021 #74 Share Posted September 7, 2021 We just got off the Panorama Saturday. Masks are required in the terminal during embark/debark. All shops and shows on board as well and public areas as well. Forget yours in the room, staff will hand you one. We saw this several mornings on Lido and they will remind you if you get up from your table to go get seconds that you need to have your mask on. Signs in the elevator remining you to Mask Up. Did not find it uncomfortable as I really wanted to take this cruise, so I willing to follow any guidelines that they had in place.
