For those who sailed with masking indoors...

OK, got the announcement from  Carnival today.  It's all getting real.  We're scheduled to cruise on the Mardi Gras, leaving Thanksgiving weekend.  With the testing, and wearing masks indoors, I'm questioning how enjoyable it will be.  I like the Playlist Production type entertainment, and the live music at the bars in the evening.

For those who sailed with the masking policy, was it as fun?  Originally, I didn't think it would bother me, but now I'm wondering if sailing in November with these guidelines might be like a death by 1000 cuts.  Would you sail again with the masking?  The alternative would be going to Disney.

Hes talking about carnival changing to a 2 day test window for vaccinated. Doesnt start until sept 13, doesnt affect your cruise. .. and of course each new protocol adds a level of worse.

You need a 2 day test starting next week--you're sailing under what you have anticipated.  It's not all that different for us than it will be for you--not really any worse, I think...at this point.  I'd really like to hear what you think when you're back.

Had a great time on Mardi Gras wearing a mask. most followed rules. only enforcement i heard was reminders over PA in casino.

True, its a little different, but what is the same any more?

My only complaint was the ports where masks were required even outdoors. It is really hot outside right now.

I just returned from the Mardi Gras sailing, I had an awesome time!  Most adhered to the mask policy, there is always some that do not, there were the same ones that we saw.  I still had a great time even with all the protocols in place, I appreciate Carnvial doing all it can do to keep us safe and healthy.

Mexico was hot, but if you are on the beach, out on the deck, drinking or eating, mask is not required.

The pre testing now two days ahead for vaccinated does not bother me, CVS has a turnaround time of 1 hour for results.

I am just glad to help with safely getting back to cruising!

We had a great time on our Alaskan cruise on the Miracle last week

I too had a great time on the Miracle Alaska cruise last week.  The masking didn’t bother me personally.  What did bother me is that there were lots of people not wearing masks or wearing them improperly (not covering their noses) and no enforcement by Carnival.

Much relieved!!! As the title of the thread referred to those who have sailed with masking indoors I assumed the announcement related to further, more strict masking policies on board. Such as wearing masks outside on the lido deck. The only reason I booked this cruise when the relaunch occurred in July was that masks weren't required on board. When that changed I few weeks ago I immediately wanted to cancel. I asked my Mom if she would mind if we postponed (it was a free balcony room from the casino, I only would lose the taxes and fees so it was real loss to me) but she said she really wanted to go. I obviously didn't want to let my mom down, so I told her I'd suck it up and still go. Thankfully I've been reading that Carnival hasn't been super strict on mask enforcement with the exception of the piano bar, comedy club, theater and elevators ( all of which I will be gladly avoid if I can stroll mask free around the rest of the ship).  Sorry to you guys only having 2 days to get your Covid tests. I got mine today, within the two day window but that was by choice. It's stressful finding a test right now.

Hi there, they do require you to wear a mask inside while strolling around especially going past the food areas and other people, which there are plenty unless eating or drinking.   While on the lido deck outside they don't require it, but as the staff kindly reminded us, it is not just for us but for them also, for their safety and a lot of them have not worked in awhile and really do not want the cruiselines to stop operating again.  Andy, the comedy host said it best, please wear your mask so I can continue to support my family and continue to work.   I did not mind at all, if that is what it takes to have cruises continue, then I will adhere to the rules.  The majority did adhere, and hopefully that will continue, respectfully,  The Islands are all requiring masks also, some will fine you if you don't wear it and now they are requiring fully vaccinated as well.  I hope you and your Mom have a great cruise, we did even though we wore our masks as required where asked to do so.

I agree, I had a great time too, but Carnival has to do a better job of enforcing, I did see them doing it, but as soon as they turned away some people took it down.  I want cruising to continue so I will follow the rules, if I did not want to follow the rules, I would not cruise, I would choose to do another type of vacation.  I wish all would respectfully do that as well.  I love cruising too much to see it stop again.

   Hi,

So, I read your comment here with much interest. Our cruise starts September 11th.  I went to Carnival website. It seems very clear to me that the 3 day covid test rule applies.

I think I needed to read an “old timer” on the board here validate what I understood Carnival stating.  Crazy?

Yeah … BUT we just got our Radiance 4/3 B2B Cruise cancelled. 🙁🙁

Once again making Platinum Status delayed ….. I was looking forward to going on our son’s ship AND making Planinum too.   Sigh ….

Right so if your cruise leaves sept 11th, you are NOT affected. As you see in my signature I'm on vista sept 11, and we keep having new threads started where someone doesnt understand. My 3 day window is still good for my sept 11 vista, as yours is also not affected.

Cdc recommended it start sept 13, and carnival appears to be following their date. So it does NOT affect your cruise.

We were on Mardi Gras last week and had a great time.  It didn't bother me to wear the mask, since you can remove it when you sit down to eat/drink.  I noticed many people removed their masks when they sat down at Grand Central (whether they had a drink or not).  Most people in the gym were not wearing masks. The only place we saw it enforced was entering the buffet.

We spent a lot of time on our own balcony, but we typically don't spend much time in crowded areas like the bars, so not a big difference for us.

We were on the Horizon last week.  If you don't gamble,  don't worry.  The smoke 8n there would permeate your mask.  Elsewhere,  mask up when moving.  When eating or drinking,  no mask.

Just wondering a few things regarding masking, before our upcoming Panorama cruise the 11th of this month.🤷🏻‍♀️🙂

Who exactly of Carnival personnel does the enforcing of the mask?

And is it really only in the eating venues?

Where are face masks worn by most people?
Walking down stateroom hallways?

Walking down the major area where Evening Photos are set up/ outside the Shopping  area? inside the stores?

Are people kind to one another regarding the mask situation?

I wear a mask & have since the beginning. But, I have witnessed unpleasant behavior in public (on each side of the mask debate).

I just want to be prepared for the general mood on the ship.

Thanks!!

🛳🛳

It's like I told my daughter. Do you want to be sitting in a classroom with a mask or going on the Lido deck without one or all the activities inside with one? It is all in perspective. We are already back at full mask mandates here. Unless you are outside or in your own home, you are wearing a mask. Would you rather do it in the same scenery you have the last 18 months or would you rather be doing it in the Caribbean?

I did notice some older teens and young adults more lax on mask wearing. I will say we did choose to skip elevators if they appeared full. Overall mood was great since we all need some form of escape.

Ships do not seem to be full, so there is more space and shorter lines.

If you order a drink at the Atrium Bar, what is the protocol regarding drinking and masking? Can you carry it around and drink it? Do you have to sit and drink it? Can you stand at the bar and drink it?

I'm so anxious to get on board Saturday and find out what the protocols are.  If I can't enjoy having a drink I'll lose my mind.

Here is a link that has all of the bar menus for you including the Fortune Teller, Brass Magnolia and Red Frog Tiki Bar, which are all new to Carnival and currently only available on the Mardi Gras.

Yep this was our take in deciding to go on the Magic last week. We knew there would be compromises - especially since we're on Team Mask and Distancing -  but that we'd still rather be out in the Caribbean. We ended up spending a lot more time outdoors on our balcony / on Lido deck, etc and much less time indoors - we even ate almost all of our meals outside after masking up to get food / drinks.  When we were inside we wore masks and following distancing protocols as much as feasible. Totally worth it to be out on the ocean and on vacation, and there were plenty of times that we were able to forget the troubles of the last 18 months.

Despite low occupancy / capacity of our sailing there were still pockets of crowds at bars (incl indoor bars) / pools / hot tubs, so consider your comfort level for those in advance as masks aren't required for those.

Wondering the same.  We go on our first 'mask' cruise in a couple weeks.  Our expectations are extremely low.  It will be an adjustment, as we don't wear masks at home.

Cruised a line last month that doesn't require masks, and it was awesome.  We'll give the masking protocols a fair shake and then decide whether to keep the remainder of our mask cruises on the schedule, or switch back to the lines that don't require them.

Carnival is increasing the requirement to wear masks indoors.  Specifically, for my cruise on Magic tomorrow (finally!) they sent out an email that noted there had been a few cases of COVID amongst the crew, and as a result they are "asking" that pax wears masks at all times when indoors, except when actively eating/drinking or in your cabin.

So...my wife and I will be spending a lot of time on the Lido deck and at Serenity, I guess!

This information is not correct.  You are not required to wear a mask while "strolling around" the ship.  Masks are required only in certain areas (lounges, casino, restaurant, elevators, etc.) where you will see a sign posted outside.  You can walk around the ship mask free and still be following the rules.
