Markmom18 Posted September 10, 2021 #51 Share Posted September 10, 2021 I always book the PB4 Rate. Just cause we’re talking price ….. am I correct in assuming that the rate I choose is NOT affected by price drops? 🤷🏻♀️ 🛳🛳 Bobbi

Yesterday I was on the phone for 3 hours and 20 minutes trying to go from an inside cabin to a balcony. Balconies are currently priced lower than what I paid for the interior. They wouldn't do it without me losing Cheers and adding it manually was going to cost me $500 more than what I had paid. It's frustrating because people are sailing for next to nothing. I guess this is a case where ignorance would be bliss. In any case, we will still have a great time. Yes..we booked under the cheers promo and even though fares have gone way down, I know we would lose that promo and not sure if its worth the angst trying to figure out what's the best deal. I think I just need to stop checking on current prices...
Hooked Already Posted September 10, 2021 #53 Share Posted September 10, 2021 I received a upgrade call, wanted me to upgrade from a balcony to a suite for only $600. Laughed and asked them why would I pay when I'm traveling solo and that the room was obviously empty. This was for the Panorama September 11th sailing,
msvickyes Posted September 10, 2021 #54 Share Posted September 10, 2021 We are sailing on the Dream on Oct 17. Called and left a message for my PVP and he called me back the next day. We got $388 OBC on our balcony cabin. Excellent.
eileen11 Posted September 10, 2021 #55 Share Posted September 10, 2021 I am curious why you would get an OBC. Did you upgrade or downgrade?
Rare KmomChicago Posted September 10, 2021 #56 Share Posted September 10, 2021 Thanks all. I am going to try to save some $ by calling today. Our next booking is Carnival Legend on December 19, party of 4 in 2 rooms, GS and SI. Looks like there is now about $300 total savings for each room compared to our booked rates. Honestly I don't know what discount code was on the bookings or whether they are considered eligible for this, but I will try to just go for the price drop and if that's not an option I will ask about OBC. We are ten days out still from final payment date. Please let me know if there are any other tips besides being nice to the rep. We always just book on the website and have not worked with a PVP. SNJCruisers Posted September 10, 2021 #57 Share Posted September 10, 2021 Congratulations to all of the gamblers that continue to get their fabulous rates all of the time. And to all of you sailing on the 23 non Excel Class ships that are able to obtain price drops in these trying times because of the basic economic supply versus demand. All of these ships are currently in my rear view mirror and my 4 current Mardi Gras and single Celebration bookings are currently not cheaper than when I booked. It's worth it to me to pay a premium to sail on a ship that is comparable with the best of what the competition currently has afloat. The true value bookings in the rest of the fleet would be in the Havana area on the three Vista Class ships since you'll never see those rates again. zpdw484 Posted September 10, 2021 #60 Share Posted September 10, 2021 So I'm assuming we're SOL since we have already made final payment? Not super familiar with carnivals policy at the moment. Sailing Mardi gras Oct 9th and rates are down from when we booked

My cruise is in like two weeks and I managed to upgrade my room without cost. Several others on the same cruise have done this as well. You won't know until you ask. Not sure why you felt the need to try and make people feel bad.
pinto18 Posted September 10, 2021 #63 Share Posted September 10, 2021 OK , just emailed out PVP to see if we could upgrade to balcony from Oceanview on Oct 16 panorama without losing the cheers package we booked under. Or get OBC...Will see what he says but not expecting anything!

You must submit the form that can be found on their web site. Once approved, compensation will be in the form of OBC as you are already Paid in Full. kitten816 Posted September 10, 2021 #66 Share Posted September 10, 2021 Cruising in 15 days, called on Wednesday, they couldn't do anything with our changing my promotion, which I would have lost a chunk of the OBC. =/
Rare KmomChicago Posted September 10, 2021 #67 Share Posted September 10, 2021 Thanks for this thread. I was on hold an hour, but just got a net of $560 off my two Legend rooms as follows: Grand Suite with $100 OBC - Reduced $400, lost $100 OBC, net savings $300 Interior - Reduced $280, did not have any promos on the old rate For both rooms we could have done a Cheers deal, i.e. add Cheers and also get a small reduction from the original rate. If we were actually going to use it, the Cheers offer was a better overall value than the straight discount I chose. However my husband and I both have had some troubles with excessive alcohol use in the past, and a package like this would encourage behavior that is dangerous for us. We do buy the OCCASIONAL adult beverage a la carte and that is plenty. I fully understand YMMV and the Cheers option would have been a steal for many passengers.

Where did you infer in my post that I was trying to make people feel bad? I congratulated the gamblers, who are the only people getting rock bottom rates on the MG. Also where did you infer that I even came close to implying that the MG was a lower class ship? Please just educate me as to where I was trying to make people feel bad because your inference is so out of left field it makes me LOL. furf_n_slo Posted September 10, 2021 #73 Share Posted September 10, 2021 We just saved $170 per cabin on the Vista. I also confirmed that early saver can continue to adjust their rates up until 2 days before you leave.

Not miserable at all, looking forward to my B2B next month. Which I paid for the old fashioned way, just like I have done 35 times over the past 35 years. I don't need to spend my time gambling amongst those inhaling on cancer sticks in the casino in order to get a reduced rate. Make sure you wear your mask to reduce the chance of catching Covid since the majority of the 27 infected on the Vista were casino employees.
