bobbismith Posted September 12, 2021 #1 Share Posted September 12, 2021 Good day fellow cruisers, Like most of you for my first cruise this year, I have lot of On Board Credit. What happens if I do not use it all? Thanks, Bobbi
beerman2 Posted September 12, 2021 #2 Share Posted September 12, 2021 (edited) If they still allow it Play a slot machine on your sign and sail card for a little bit, cash out and turn ticket in for the money. Rare 1025cruise Posted September 12, 2021 #3 Share Posted September 12, 2021 Unfortunately, its use it or lose it. With reference to cashing out in the casino, unfortunately, this is not allowed. The system will only allow you to play, and then cash out winnings.
mondello Posted September 12, 2021 #4 Share Posted September 12, 2021 If you're gonna lose it, spend it all. Buy a watch, bet big in the casino or even tip the crew. Someone posted that Guest Services has a fund of some kind for the benefit of the crew.
groundloop Posted September 12, 2021 #5 Share Posted September 12, 2021 Has Carnival improved keeping track of your onboard account? I recall that pre-pandemic you could pull up your account on the television, but it wasn't always accurate (mine was so far off one time I headed down to guest services in a panic, what they pulled up on their computer was correct). Rare ontheweb Posted September 12, 2021 #7 Share Posted September 12, 2021 Some OBC is refundable; some is not. The good news is that they use up the nonrefundable first. Don't forget if your tips are not included that OBC goes towards them. That can take up a significant portion of your OBC.
secondchance Posted September 12, 2021 #8 Share Posted September 12, 2021 Just had fun using up over $1000 OBC last week on the Vista and still cashed in some casino winnings. Had a blast!! No Covid outbreaks and super weather! 3

Have you sailed recently and received this information during your cruise? I'm not impugning your veracity or integrity, just curious how you can state that with such assurance. Lots of people say lots of things here with no first-hand knowledge.

Decali Posted September 13, 2021 #16 Share Posted September 13, 2021 Just my experiences here but they always seem to send me a gift card for the remainder whether or not the OBC was refundable non-refundable. I think they know me better than I know me via algorithm and that I'll use that $75 gift card to justify spending 4K on another cruise. 100% my experience and It might be different now with so much OBC floating around.

Sailin_Pirate Posted September 13, 2021 #18 Share Posted September 13, 2021 (edited) Just because Carnival doesn't enforce their rules fully doesn't mean it is incorrect information being passed. Carnival already tags the different cruise cash differently tagging OBC wouldn't take much. There are reviews here since the restart and posts on JHs page that point out the can't purchase gift cards or cash out the cancelled cruise obc through the casino. They had to close the loop holes they are still bleeding money they can't afford to have millions get cashed out. John Heald or a call to Carnival would confirm the limitations on the canceled cruise OBC rather or not its enforced is a Carnival problem. Also someone saying they tried something doesn't mean it succeeded just means they tried it Edited September 13, 2021 by Sailin_Pirate
ngrund Posted September 13, 2021 #19 Share Posted September 13, 2021 John Heald has mentioned that the OBC for cancelled/rebooked cruises is not going to be able to be used for gift cards or cashed out in the casino. What I have not seen mentioned, is donating any leftover to St Jude. I know I won't have this problem if we end up going on our cruise in May-wife has promised to buy some jewelry if we have any left.
wikoffclan Posted September 13, 2021 #20 Share Posted September 13, 2021 We cruised 8/21/21 on the Breeze out of Galveston. Had $300 non-refundable OBC (from a cancelled cruise) plus $25 casino credit. Thought I had used all the OBC and then cashed out winnings in the casino. I just received a check from Carnival for $15.30. No idea why... but I'll take it!

If you do slots you have to play the money and cash out the winnings. Tables games its similar but not as 100% filtering the money through play as slots. You cash an amount into chips and start playing. You pay a 3% service fee up front for the conversion. Personally, I didn't try turning a few hundred of OBC into chips and then making just a $1 bet/spin and then cashing out. I imagine they might have something to say about that. Your bets aren't being counted though, so seems that would be possible. I googled how to play roulette. I played outside bets and won, and got a few drinks, and lost, and tipped and did so a few times on different days and walked away with my $200 converted OBC as cash and a little extra. Less than a week later I got casino Drinks On Us and $25 PP offers. And that was the win I was aiming for. If someone wanted to do a donation to St. Jude, the process could be quite easy with a quick trip into Cherry On Top. "Hi, I'd like to order X amount of the Groove For St. Jude t-shirts. Oh, and hold the shirts." 🙂 . Edited September 13, 2021 by DGP1111
pinto18 Posted September 13, 2021 #23 Share Posted September 13, 2021 Can you play roulette and put 1/2 the OBC on red and the other 1/2 on black and as long as 0 or 00 doesn't come up (95% chance it will not) you come out even and have cashed out the OBC? ngrund Posted September 13, 2021 #25 Share Posted September 13, 2021 Applying OBC (or just taking a marker charged to cabin-basically the same thing) to a table has a 3% fee, no fee on slot machine
