Royal Up Confusion

New to CC, I'm sailing October 31 out of Barcelona and was looking to Royal Up.  Called RCL to see if I could and they told me no unless I received the Royal Up email.  I'm a Diamond Plus.  They were very specific, no Royal Up email, no upgrade bid capability.

Cruise was fully paid 3 months in advance.  Was I missing a requirement or something?

First, C&A status has nothin to do with RoyalUp offers. RoyalUp is a third party service.

Second, it depends on inventory and capacity. For example: I sail Oct 31st on Allure, people have been getting offers since Aug but I never received one. Even if I go to the site and put info in, it gives me a message about making sure I am within the 30day time frame. I well within but no offers. I assume it is because I am in a 2br GS and have no where to upgrade to. That might be your case based on your room type, ships capacity and juts plain inventory.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm mistaken but I think that if you booked through a travel agent it also depends on whether or not that travel agent participates in the Royal Up programme. Not all do and if yours doesn't then you won't get an email and the link won't work for you.

There's no way that ship is sailing full so I suppose you could always try asking at Guest Services on board if any upgrades are available, if you're not able to use Royal Up.

Nope. You're stuck with it and they will charge your credit card when they inform you that your bid has been successful.

You can't back out, but like a GTY assignment, you should be able to switch to another exact category cabin (US booking).

Somewhere in the small lettering it notes that if you have not opted in to RCs marketing campaigns, you will not receive a Royal Up.

We received a  RoyalUp invitation but can only cruise in an Accessible cabin.  No one at RCCL can assure us that's what we'd get if our bid was accepted

they make no guarantees.  We never try when traveling in multiple cabins or if we had any particular reason for selecting our cabin.

we did try once last month when sailing on our own and were not successful.

We did not get an offer to Royal up for our next cruise while others on the same cruise did. I called and was told I didn't qualify, the rep could give me no reason. I called back a few minutes later and a different rep sent me a Royal up offer while I was still on the phone.

I was sent a royal up e-mail for the first time for my upcoming cruise (this Monday). Based on zero experience I put the lowest offer for all three offers, last night was upgraded from a panoramic view (no balcony) suite to a two bedroom/two bath suite. Didn't have any experience or secret formula, I think just luck.

I thank everyone with their replies.  I'll comment that the ships is not full and I can still go and find rooms as though I were making a new booking.  It seems to me that if there are rooms higher than what I have I should be in the hunt for bidding.  It may also be that because I made my booking 18 months ago through a travel agent and I'm not available to bid on any higher rooms.

Again, thanks all for your comments and I'll clearly investigate when I make my next booking.

When you book has no affect on bidding. You can also try going to Royal Up and use the other name on the booking - the order of names listed on the booking may affect ability to bid (only the first name listed may be able to bid).

I’ve never gotten the email, and I’m booked through a travel agent. I’ve always been able to login directly into the Royal Up site and I’ve won 2 bids through it.

Just a thought. Some TAs book on group rates that do not qualify for some options. I wonder if this could be a factor.

Aside from that, I was on a B2B on Indy several weeks ago and never received a Royal Up offer for the second leg. Going to the RC link to make a bid, I always got the response as mentioned above that it was not within the 30 days or incorrect info was submitted. I had the suite concierge checking on it which was escalated to Next Cruise and Guest Services and it was never resolved. I was finally able to get in on the link the day before sailing which was then too late as everything had already been awarded.

Prior to the sailing, I called RC several times and was told that it’s done through an outside agency and they could do nothing.

True. We booked 10 days prior to sailing on Harmony last month and received a RoyalUp email a few days after booking.

Same thing happened to my sister.  We are on Odyssey  sailing  next week for a b2b.  I  received a  Royal up offer for both cruises and so  did someone else traveling with us but she didn't.   I  told her to call , she did twice and was told they just send them out randomly  and next time that she didn't  qualify.   I guess there isn't a magical formula to this cause one of my cruises was with Casino Royale the other with a T/ A. By the way I  didn't  Royal up cause its been 2 years since I've seen her and didn't want to abandon her, lol.

Winning the bid can happen anytime between bidding and boarding. The denial email comes sometime between night before sailing and after sail away.

Did you originally book through a travel agent? We booked through a travel agent for the first time ever - I usually book through Royal directly. When I go to the Royal Up site it says to make sure we are within 30 days and I can't proceed from there. We are now less than 20 days out. Wondering if I will have any luck calling Royal for a Royal Up email when I booked with a travel agent

Unlikely - you must make sure your TA participates in Royal Up, not all do. Ask others on your sailing (via Roll Call thread or FB) to see if they were able to bid. Also, if two different last names were used on the booking, try the other one.
