MarKay525 Posted November 21, 2021 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2021 I was watching her for about 45 minutes - just lucked out and turned on the webcam as she came into the basin. She was accompanied by two unidentified military ops vessels and offloaded several crew members. Crew of the tug St. Johns (I think that was the name) will have some good stories to tell as they were alongside pretty much the entire time she was in the basin. Edge and Allure passengers had front row seats!
miched Posted November 21, 2021 #5 Share Posted November 21, 2021 Back when dating in our teen years many of us would park along the Detroit River to watch the nightly submarine races. 🤗 Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅
DirtyDawg Posted November 21, 2021 #6 Share Posted November 21, 2021 (edited) I've never been impressed by those subs. All inside cabins and no balconies. What's with that? 😉 Edited November 21, 2021 by DirtyDawg 2

Rare teacherman Posted November 22, 2021 #14 Share Posted November 22, 2021 Hey, Miched..Many times I enjoyed the submarine races. We liked to select a spot on Belle Isle that could view the races and the downtown area looking down the river. I remember a couple of times when an ice cream truck would stop and ring its bell and many gentlemen would leave their cars to get some cool treats for their ladies. Ah....good times. marieps Posted November 22, 2021 #15 Share Posted November 22, 2021 Our visit to Pearl during our TransPacific cruise pre-covid opened my eyes to how vital the U.S. sub fleet was to the war effort. I think one was out less than 3 weeks and was lost. We salute you, valiant sailors.
