Carnival Shareholders OBC

So I just wanted to say I am a bit disappointed. I bought my 100 shares of carnival because I cruise mainly on Carnival and Princess. I thought the OBC was a nice benefit.   It seems that it only applies if you pay full regular fair.   Well my rates are always better under the VFIP rates. Far less then the regular rate less 100 dollar obc for shareholders.

I just wanted to share incase anyone else is considering buying Carnival stock for the obc benefit.

Attached is a copy of email from Carnival. Screenshot_20211123-074826_Gmail.thumb.jpg.3683eb850f7a09423062a8fdad93ade3.jpg

It does not seem Princess or any of the other lines owned by Carnival Corporation are doing that, or at least not yet.

I never pay full fare and have received shareholder OBC on 3 out of 3 cruises this year and a fourth time approved for a cruise next month. Never an issue. I don't believe for a second Carnival is randomly rejecting applicants.

I do see now they spell out casino cruisers can expect to be rejected. I do think that it is about time for that. Now if they had reduced or eliminated VIFP points for the same cruises, it would have helped avoid saturation at the higher VIFP levels.

Carnival had months of expenses with no income.  Consider the savings between your VIFP rate and the regular deals your OBC, for now.  Once they get all their ships sailing again and are showing a profit, if they continue denying OBC I will be upset.  For now I'm just glad I can cruise!

Oh, and don't sell you stock just because of this-for now.

Mine was not a casino rate, just a vifp deal.

I had the same thing happen and when I asked for an explanation I was told any casino or VIFP fares are not eligible.  It has made my decision to stop cruising with Carnival an easy one.  December will be my last.  It's too bad as I've always enjoyed sailing with them and I never found them to be "cheap" like a lot of people.  However this one seems a little short sighted.

A little shortsighted? I'd say extremely shortsighted. Take away something that costs them next to nothing and alienate some of your most loyal customers. That can't be a good marketing strategy!

Make your voice heard, you are a stock holder which comes with other rights.  Bring a motion forward to be voted on by shareholders next year.

When you get your proxy statement, vote NO a lot of times.

You can, but most shares are held by institutions who aren't eligible anyway.

Was it the $40(or similar rate) sale that is going on.

I was just about to submit for two. I wonder if it will be rejected.

No, I paid around 500 ea  for inside cabin, included cheers. Booked ages ago. Don't remember exact number, not 40 bucks for sure, lol

As a Carnival Shareholder I purchased the stock for this very benefit. It had never been removed on discounted cruises before so why now. As stockholder's we have power and if all band together we can initiate a change.

Good luck with that. Maybe they will just terminate the program.

Thank you for letting me vote the way I wish when I get my proxy vote. However, I did not realize I needed your permission.😃

I bought CCL stock in the late 90s and have cruised with them 45 times…and have never been denied the stockholder credit in all those years…including free cruises……until NOW!

cruising next week and I was denied this time….. I have 2 more CCL cruises booked for next year…BUT if it’s denied…

that will definitely be the end of my cruising them…..I’m top tier on NCL, RCCL, MSC and they all give perks every cruise….plus have ,less smoking on their ships….

without stockholder obc…..total no brainer

I wonder when they are going to figure out for every few dollars they save, they will lose more when folks do not book them. The bean counters have outsmarted themselves with this change in the way the shareholder OBC is enforced.

Wow. I have Carnival Stock and have ever had an issue. I just submitted the request for our cruise in February, 2022. Looking at the Shareholder Benefits sheet, it doesn’t say anything about not applicable if you don’t pay regular fare.

I have received 3 credits this year so far, and a fourth credit approved for a cruise next month, and have never paid full fare. I don't believe the rejections are random, have offered several theories, but am done playing 20 questions trying to identify exactly what is going on with others.

The rejections for the shareholder onboard credit benefit is relatively new in terms of being enforced. The guidelines always said discounted rates don't qualify, but they never enforced for most rates even if VIFP or casino. Then they started denying it for casino rates. Now for rates that are exclusively tied to ones VIFP #. Early saver and any rate you get without plugging in your VIFP # is still eligible. I've had several approvals too for bookings with VIFP rates. Just three weeks ago we sailed Mardi Gras with the cheers included promo and had the shareholder OBC. That same rate now would be rejected.

In time they will probably bring it back along with the dividend payments. But for now, they have really restricted the benefit. Sucks, but I can understand why.

Look again, it clearly spells it out.

"Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates, tour conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced-rate or complimentary basis are excluded from this offer."

And everyone going at least one mile an hour over a clearly posted speed limit gets a ticket. 🤣 The  point is that may be the written rule, but until now the part you highlighted has not been enforced. And from reading and posting in other cruise line forums owned by Carnival Corporation and thus subject to the same rules, the part you have highlighted is not enforced, only the first part.

The "reduced-rate" line is ignored because it is virtually, if not literally, impossible to book a full price cruise with Carnival. Go ahead and try to book at the brochure price. You'll find that even without a VIPF number, without listing your state or country and choosing the highest available rate you'll still get anywhere from a 25-50% "discount" on the full advertised rate.
